Kindred Spirits - Warp (Icone Remix)

Hey all,

here's my second remix for the Belgian TA'ers at Kindred Spirits:

Kindred Spirits - Warp (Icone Remix)

I'll add a permanent link from D-I later on. What I can say about this track is 'people who know me know what to expect from me'

Cheers,
Wim

Real nice.. I looked on your site and noticed no hard synths.. is this track all software?

I wouldn't expect anything more/less out of a pro track... but if you want to stand out from the rest.. you may want to keep these ideas in mind:

make your bass/kick fatter

melody was good, but not very catchy/epic.. work on making better melodies by using better harmonic structures/chord progressions

experiment more.. you're at the level where you can produce a pro track.. now have fun with it and do something un-expected or original (beat slicing like BT is a good way to start at this IMO)

Ooh.. This is very nice! Just the kind of trance I enjoy.. I can't find anything bad about it mate! Top stuff!

Excellent stuff this as expected, my only grumble id say is that the kick needed a bit more bottom end minor technicality tho!!

But excellent stuff, keep up the good work

Hey Wim
Another nice tune to add to my collection to play on my show

Posted by NoisyNeil on Jan-28-2005 10:21:

Excellent stuff Wim, really liking this one
I love how the build-up and the use of samples really match each other. The only thing is the beat, as Alanzo already concluded the kick is a little on the weak side could pump it up some more Maybe some more percussion?

However, great production Keep up the good work!

very nice work icone

> personnally i think that the main melody is nothing special, same goes for the plucky chord in the buildup. ive heard them too much i think

> production is TOP NOTCH, quite fat sounding structure is great and globally i love the sounds you use.

Thanks guys!

Guess everybody expects everybody to go experimental every now and then. Dunno if I'm that type of guy really, so sorry to disappoint on that matter for some people

I had some problems with the kick not messing with the bassline in this track, this is what I got as best result while fiddling with it. I don't have an ultra-pro mastering rack, so please bare with me on that one

I also noticed that during the track, some percussion didn't come through as it should, maybe I will compress them a bit more afterwards.

Plucky chord during the buildup is just there I think, I used it to fill up some gaps. Mind One still uses them too and I personally still quite like them...

Cheers,
Wim

this track sound very familiar to some other track, i think it's either your track sorrow or aalto - rush, any how, i dunno, i don't like this to much, it sounds so way past it's due date.

Some classic Icone here. Well done!

Nothing bad about it to my ears, very cool stuff

that's what i like about it. today's epic trance is too complex and takes way too long to build. i love how straight-in-your-face this remix is (a feature that we also used for the original mix). it reminds me of how good trance was five years back. there's plenty of energy here and i'm sure it's a bomb on the dancefloor.

many thanx again for the remix, Wim

Loved the song great remix!

hey...man just a few notices about this treasure....

thiss pretty trancy, not to very original, but its worth to release i think, i know what i think its global. Not anyone like this sound, but i have my personal feeling to it.

Qulity sound!

not proggy but cathy in my opinion!

think that just thiss perfect once more!

Good Luck goes to Icone and Blue Berry!

Hehe, thanks for the backup mate

I guess you can hear where I get alot of inspiration from... Those days certainly stick to my head.

Thanks to all for the comments, highly appreciated!

Hell yeah man, this sounds nice. The intro really hooked me in. Good job! I agree about the vibe 5 or 6 years ago in trance. This tune made me feel that vibe again.

Hey Wim... liking this mate! Great use of FX - keeps the tune fresh! One thing that grabbed the scruff of my neck is those synths during the break... produced to perfection! One of your better recent mixes! Keep it up Wim - I am relying on you!

Posted by Darkone55 on Jan-28-2005 18:12:

Hmm, well produced. But the leads are just a bit too loud. And it's not so special. But the rest is very good.

Thanks alot Omer, Steve & AaroNoct

I'm the guy that wrote the melody, and this made me smile

I wasn't going for catchy/epic, I was going for "in your face all you fucking trance bitches"

I can't speak for the rest of the track cause that's Wim's work, but the melody is supposed to sound very 1999

Posted by Stino on Jan-30-2005 11:03:

You know i like your work and i like this one as well...its typical icone . Only thing i would like to hear is a fatter kick and bass...but the rest is top notch again. Your sounds are so nice, like always, but in this one they really really fit excellent with each other, your equalizing is top notch on this one (in my opinion).

Posted by Icone on Jan-30-2005 11:15:

Pumaz: I got the feeling alright. Some people didn't experience that period though, so I guess you can't blame them...

Stino: Thanks mate! Glad you like it. Will try to make up for the kick and bass in the next one

Hey Wim,

Nice to see your name about here again, haven't heard anything from you for a long time!

Just listening to the track, i have some feedback for you!

I think that the eqing is lacking a little in depth and sparkle, it does sound balanced, but at the same time, is lacking that sharpness that gives alot of pro tracks quality. I would definatly add a little more top end eq to the open hat.

I also think the track would benifit from more unique sound effects. I hear there are some there already, but i feel that there isn't enough to create a real atmosphere.

Breakdown is very nice, the lead durring the build could do with a little more reverb and maybe more delay. I don't think it sounds as wide as it could do, and again, a little more top end would help this out aswell.

Sorry if this sounded a little harsh, i hope that you find it benificial! The track is really, very good, and i shall support it in my sets.

Cheers for sharing your work!

George
