Exclamation Calling ALL TA's!! Heaven/Kristina Sky/Grooveriders/BIG NEWS!!!!!!!

I have been meaning to make this announcement for several weeks now...

I think this matter concerns all clubbers and ravers in SoCal.

As some of you may have heard, This is Music on Melrose Ave. shut its doors about 4 weeks ago.

This means that there are now officially NO GOOD RECORD STORES LEFT on Melrose, or in L.A. for that matter... except...

anyone local remember good ol Grooveriders on Ventura Blvd?

If you don't, then you skipped dance music history in l.a. 101...

Anyway, Elmar(Owner) was the guy to first open up a underground DANCE music record shop in Los Angeles about 15 years ago.
Shortly after, he opened up a second shop, Grooveriders, to cater to the "Valley" crowd, located on Ventura Blvd.

While dance music slowly rose to the surface, ELMAR and his record shops served as THE places to go get your tickets for events(especially underground raves), pick up flyers for upcoming parties, get new gear to wear to the club/rave, pick up new mix tapes of your favorite local djs ( yes, i did say MIX TAPES), and most importantly where all the hot local DJs went to get their records.
These were not just RECORD shops, they were CULTURE shops.

Well, times change and more and more shops opened and business was spread much thinner.

The scene grew and grew and everything was nice... until... the RAVE act passed and the media decided they had nothing better to do than focus on slaughtering our culture.

Then as most may know, the scene took a dive, and shop after shop after shop closed down.

BUT we still had Larry's DMC on Melrose and of course Booth 7...

Unfortunately we lost those as well this past year or so.

When those went, a couple new ones opened.. but apparently they were unsuccessful as their doors have closed now too (temple of boom still open for DnB/Jungle).

BUT wait.. there is still Grooveriders.

This guy refuses to quit.

and I want to help him keep his doors open.

I don't know about you guys, but I feel weird about not having 1 single trance related physical record store in Los Angeles, or even dance music specialized record store in general.

Internet has taken over, and yeah its cool and all but it's taking all the soul out of our community.

There is no interaction or excitement when you go on to a website to shop.

We want to bring back the community feel to L.A.

And what better time then at a time where we have more trance djs/producers coming thru l.a. than we have ever had, while continuing to host these events at our clubs is going to propell dance music forward in Los Angeles?

Now is the time.

I have been asked by the owner to take over ALL things related to trance in the shop.
to the DJs reading: this means I am also the Trance BUYER.

I will be in charge of making all decisions when it comes to:

VINYL releases we will carry

CDs we will get in (i.e. Tiesto Magik Muzik, Armin's A State of Trance Mixes etc..)

DVDs (i.e. Tiesto in Concert)

and artist paraphenelia (yes i did call it that, because some of you TA's really are addicted) and this will include artist merch, t-shirts, slpmats, stickers, whatever they got and want us to carry (this will be so you dont have to go out and spend 60 USD on a Blank & Jones T-Shirt on EBay ;-) )

and that's not all.. (in an infomercial voice)

The owner has given me the go to coordinate any sort of events or activities that I think are relevant to our dance community here in SoCal.. what does this mean for anyone that actually read this far?...

FUCKING COOL ASS EVENTS @ GROOVERIDERS!!!!

This is what I figure:

These DJs rarely ever play here.

Why not make the most of their stay??

Headliner will play at Heaven on Friday and then each Sat or Sun (indiv. date will be announced) clubbers, lovers and fans will be given an awesome opportunity! A second chance to see your favorite artist perform and to even meet up with them!!!

Each week DJs will make an exclusive IN-STORE appearence @ Groooveriders!

They will do an in-store set, bring GIVEAWAYS from their record labels, there will be free gear, chances to get autographs, take photos, chill out, meet other TAs, shop for records(DJS- there will be sale prices on all the new hot trance releases during the event), shop for CDs or any other random shit you might need, and much more that I can't think of right now.

Bottom line, this could be a really sick event if I can get it going and get your support.

The events will always be FREE, and there will be soundsystems set up INSIDE and OUTSIDE, there will be FREE BEER and FOOD and as I said before FREE Vinyls and Gear from the artist.

These events are my way of thanking all the TAs that have been so supportive of Heaven and of the dance music scene here in general.

Precision this weekend will be our first event and I hope to see it grow from there.

Let me know if you have any questions at all.

Thanks for reading.

and Thanks in advance for the support.

Let's try to keep this family style!

I really believe in this store, the TA's, the club and the artists.
These events will be good for everyone, the club, the store, the fans, the djs, the talent, the labels and the booking agents.

So let's see if we can make it happen.

I'm open to suggestions and also to anyone who wants to help!

I definitely have a lot on my plate adding this to the mix on top of going to school fulltime, doing Heaven, AND DJing.

I know this post was really scattered and random, but there was a lot of info and I hope some of you actually were able to follow me.. hahaha

DETAILS ON THIS SATURDAY'S TA MEETUP WILL BE POSTED SHORTLY

I have decided to call these events," Who Is...?"

Since this is a chance for people to come and really see who these DJs/Producers are, off the stage and in a smaller more intimate environment. They have the freedom to play whatever they want at the store, and who knows, you might see one of your favorite DJs bust out with a set you never thought they would play...

HOLY CHEESIE POOFS BATMAN!!!! Thats fricken awesome!! Comin from someone who lives in Santa Barbara, and discovered the glories of trance music here in Santa Barbara, I wish we had something like this. Maybe on the way back from Johan next weekend I can convince my buddies to drop by the shop. Sound like an awesome place to be a part of.

on another note...possibility to get ambient/downtempo tracks??? i cant find anywhere that has them!!!

wow wow wow are you in fucking luck...

it just so happens that elmar just got a new House/Ambient/Downtempo Buyer too!

His name is Theory and he plays a lot of shows in l.a.

The guy knows his shit and we have gotten insane responses since he took over the buyinga couple of weeks ago around the time I started.

and to double your pleasure- theory is hosting the indoor soundstage with his djs as well at our event on saturday.

details below:
GROOVERIDERS

special instore appearance and mix session with -

Justin Martin & Sammy D_ (classic, roam, buzzinfly, utensil recordings)

along with groove riders new house/downtempo buyer - Theory_ (uniting souls, open minds)

5pm - 7pm,_ free food, beer, and a discount on records!!
(record sale starts at 4pm til close)

and don't forget to pick up Justin Martin's new promo release on Utensil Recordings,
before we sell out!!

*************
im really stoked that this can be a place for you to go.

the whole point is to bring back the in store experience.

i know im not the only dj who likes to go into a shop and look thru new records, check out the artwork, play the record, and walk out with new tunes in your hand minutes later...

expect top notch trance in this shop from now on.

and the more our trance group grows again and the more records sell, , the more money I am given to order new releases.

i will deliver every quality trance label out there, and if there is anything we dont have that you want, just let me know and i will look into ordering it.

we may even be able to do orders over the phone and ship within CA.

we are going to make sure this is a specialty shop and we want it to evolve with our customers... and listen to some CHOONS and meet some friend salong the way. :-D

p.s. YES, this means 2 simultaneous in-stores on Saturday. It's gonna rock.
