Hard Drives

Ok a couple of questions on HD's for hte clever people at TA.

Firstly, does it actually matter which way you mount your HD? mine are currently verticle due to space reasons, but secured in with a little padding to stop vibrations and quiet them down for when i'm recording.

Secondly, an old hard disk I've put in is coming up with the name "x#e S4o2 e#h.o o'y J360" and isnt too happy about being partitioned or formatted - does this mean it's totally had it? Or is there some life still in there, to be used possibly just as a temp/unimportant drive. Obv nothing important could be stored on it.

Cheers, any information would be greatly appreciated!

storing your hard drive verticlly won't be a problem.. many PC systems do that. Not sure if you want to put the padding around it (fire hazard).

I would say your hard drive has had it.. hope it wasn't expensive (hard drives and fans are the main things that go on computers since they are the only things with moving parts)

curious what this has to do with producing music

you could probly recover the drive to be honest.... i just dont know if youd want to. find the hard drive manfacture and if its a major one goto their website get their hard drive utulities for that drive run them and attemp to repair it by running their in depth disk cheack and then procceed to do a low leval format.
