Happy Hardcore

One of my guilty pleasures but god can it put you in a good mood

just dusted off Prodigy's Experience Expanded

Posted by Alexan on Jan-29-2005 09:07:

meh, I don't really like it. too fast and alot of annoying effects.

Posted by Vyse on Jan-29-2005 10:14:

I like happy hardcore from time to time. Always puts me in a good mood

Grew up on this from 1993-2000 when it was hard to find DJ sets with no intranet access and it will always remain a love of mine. People hate it but I don't think it matters what they think, for ppl like me having it as a phase of growing up makes it something that we liked.

Same here! Although I wasn't old enough for clubs back then, I was listening to tons of this and other oldschool stlyes from CDs...and I still love it!

Posted by n0bben on Jan-29-2005 12:39:

i'd place it among hardstyle, gabber, hardcore and such.

sounds like such a hardcore title.. it's fun to listen to every now and then gettin ready for a party. the hardcore kids are fuckin crazy lol

The Prodigy is probably the only selection of tracks/album that i've liked that could be classified as happy hardcore, it had more of an industrial feel to it.

The other happy hardcore tracks i've heard have always had some squeeky high pitched girl singing about "coulds" "feeling high" "sky" and "reaching".

Posted by AlphaStarred on Jan-29-2005 20:48:

likewise grew up on it from the early or mid 90s...used to have a number of copied tapes from my cousin's original tapes, which i used to listen to on my stereo and walkman..but both of us have either lost or misplaced them

Posted by RickyM on Jan-29-2005 20:52:

I remember having a few bonkers cd's

Was good to listen to back in the day....

happy hardcore, especially oldschool, is not akin to hardstyle in the remotest way.

Posted by adder on Jan-29-2005 22:57:

i associate it with the old Scooter sound- endless summer etc...

Posted by Sjagga on Jan-29-2005 23:18:

To me it's more like fun from time to time, but i can't enjoy it for longer than half a minute anyway

i didnt compare them in terms of their musical similarities, thought u'd understand that.

i compare them because i think all those genres are useless.

Posted by GHOSH on Jan-30-2005 00:38:

Charlie Lownoise & Mental Theo, and Dune were amongst my old guilty pleasures.

Posted by Misiorowski on Jan-30-2005 00:52:

Happy Hardcore is fucking awful.

i figured as much, but some people nevertheless may mistake hardstyle with hardcore..and so i posted to prevent misconception..

so is your face.

Posted by Icesotope on Jan-30-2005 04:23:

Happy Hardcore has always been an misunderstanding genre especially in the past..

Posted by bass.exe on Jan-30-2005 06:21:

iinteresting...i didn't think you could classify Prodigy as Happy Hardcore. I thought happy hardcore was the trade mark high bpm cheese with high pitch vocals thats always blasintg outisde video game arcades over here.

You're telling me that Prodigy - Outta Space/Music Reach/Wind It Up aren't happy hardcore

Older Prodigy is vastly different than the stuff they've done recently, their sound has really evolved.

I just dont see the simlarity between that and the chipmunk vocal high BPM stuff.

Posted by DTTA on Jan-30-2005 06:52:

Yeah, same here. I'd put the early Prodigy stuff as Oldskool/Jungle. The Happy Hardcore stuff (the chipmunks) sounds more refined to me. Depends, too, on how pedantic one is about the genres of course.

Posted by trance2xtreme on Jan-30-2005 07:13:

I give you guys a round of applause. Cause I dont know how you can stand that type of music

I have tried listening to some tracks, but it didn't work. Its awful.
