Question Vandit Discussion Thread

Anyone remember how sleepy Vandit was at the end of 2003? Everyone wondered what the heck was going on.

The label went on a blitz in 2004. Here are all the vinyl releases from the past year:

031 Paul Van Dyk feat. Second Sun - Crush
032 G&M Project - Sunday Afternoon
033 Terry Bones vs Fred Baker pres. Water Planet - Introspection
034 Agnelli & Nelson - Holding Onto Nothing
035 Paul Van Dyk - Reflections: Special Edition 2x12"
036 Castaneda - Floor Control
037 Malte & Marc De Clarq - No More Rain
038 Nick Lunn & YOMC pres. Techno-Punk - Energize / Saturday
040 Jose Amnesia - The Eternal
042 The Infernal Machine - Realistic
043 Robert Gitelman - Children Of The Sun / As You Wish
044 Second Sun - The Spell
045 Marcos - Cosmic String / Just For A Day

Whew! For pokey Vandit it was rather overwhelming. Both No More Rain and Realistic finally saw release, the latter with a surprising Chris Liebing remix.

But there has been some talk that Vandit is turning to quantity over quality. How true is this? I don't know, it's part of why I'm making the thread. There were some solid exclusive releases from 2004 (Crush, Introspection, The Spell), but also many tracks that were released earlier on other labels and arguably do not reach the Vandit standard. What do you think?

Personally, I think Floor Control, Children Of The Sun, and Cosmic String fall below the Vandit par. And of course The Eternal, which I think most of us acknowledge was a totally useless pressing. Energize and Sunday Afternoon got a lot of flak, but I think they pass the test, albeit not by much. Holding Onto Nothing was clearly Vandit material as well.

Where is Vandit going? Josh Gabriel - Alive and Reflekt - Need To Be Loved seem to be up next, which seem more progressive than Vandit is used to. Is this a good thing?

Discuss!

I read somewhere that they were transitioning offices (closed the one in Hamburg.)

They have also got new staff which help do work faster I guess.

1 release a month is the idea! 2005 should be the same way!

The Eternal was awesome, and a really good release.

Holding onto Nothing, on the other hand, was a really weak release, boring McTrance. one of last years most overrated tunes. Crush was also crap.

For me, VANDIT always had its up and downs, and the next "up" seems to be Summer Dream. can't wait.

Gasp! Blasphemy!

Holding Onto Nothing was alright actually. Maybe just because it actually means something to me...

pretty cheesy vocals, and another standard melodic track. and when PvD remix arrived, people went mad. even though he practically only changed the bassline a little.

definitely not, this isnt vandit style at all just like gabriel's alive, weak trance.
I hope Vandit stay the same with not so much releases a year but still a good amount and quality tracks and first of all keep the vandit "spirit"

Posted by arturob on Jan-30-2005 03:30:

`Alive` is not weak trance! wtf.

wow! i think cosmic string is fantastic. its one of my faves of all time, i dont think it lets the vandit label down at all!

I'm too biased to post mine.

The original was already one of my top tracks for 2003, and Paul's "edit" merely added his kick. I don't pretend he did anything more than that.

One of my favorite tracks of the last two years, well above most other epic/anthemic trance during that period.

I think the vocals are different and well done. Among hundreds of rent-a-vocal Justine Suissa clones, it stands out.

Probably the Tell Me Why 2x12"

Though Dreamland might rank about the same, too.

I don't know. This one is probably just my opinion, because a lot of people seem to like it. Both Marcos tracks and the MvL remixes sound good to me, but not much more than that. I don't think there's anything particularly Vandit-worthy about the release, and actually think Children Of The Sun would be a better choice if I had to pick from the three I singled out.

children of the sun!!! - you are all my children

great track

re: Cosmic String/Just for a Day

which out of those two was the one paul ended most of his sets with throughout the latter half of last year? (and the one tiesto played at both concert events) i always thought it was Just for a Day but heard there was some confusion with labelling.

hmm

many uplifting trance tunes like that can mean something to other people. maybe consider remembering that next time you feel like flaming people for liking stuff?

just a thought

so true - everyone has different tastes unless you work as A & R for a specific label - shopping for a specific sound - everything has its place in EDM. simple - complex - hence the next year of 2005 remixes of older tracks we are sure to see be released.

that one to grow on!

I thought almost all of their releases were great! Vandit is probably my favourite label, and i really dig their sound.

I personally own about half of those releases, and i am very happy with them

Reflections was disappointing in my opinion, but most of the other releases were quite good.

* Paul played an awesome harder version of "Crush" during one of his sets im Eastern Europe (i think it was in the Czech Republic). This would have gone down really well on the release.

* Jose Amnesia - The Eternal would have been MUCH better if they included the Pulser Remix, which easily outshines every other version.

* Marcos - Cosmic Strings / Just For A Day pwns me

Then why not put your 'biased feelings' aside and answer truthfully? If anyone thinks Introspection is a better release than Welcome To The Dance, Synaesthesia, OTAB, Another way, etc. then they are a fool.

To be fair this isn't a bad habit they've picked up recently, Vandit have always done this: Be.Angeled, Synaesthesia, Eternity, etc. So I don't think this should be a point supporting the arguements for the demise in their recent reputation as it's something they've always done.

I think Vandit 002 has to be my favourite.
