Anywhere where I can get an old version of ICQ?

Does anyone have or know where I can get an older version of ICQ. The 2000b version always crashed my computer and I was always disconnected while using it. Is there any where I can get an old version, preferably one of the old 1997 version where you can just send the files and messages without all of the shit that makes your computer crash?

Paul, have a look at Trillian

http://www.trillian.cc

I use that - works like a charm.

Hey Paul.. I dont know if you would be able to get that... see I had the 98 version in my old computer and I emailed that to one of my friends.. and she received the newer version on her new email.. so I guess they change it automatically even when u try to send it to someone... I guess ur best bet is to go to www.icq.com... and either download the 2001 version.. or contact their customer service center, Im sure they'll help you with that.. or go to their download assistant section...

good luck!

I checked that out. Great idea but my internet connection was lost immediately when I opened it after installing it, same problems as I had with ICQ.

I use MSN so if somebody could send an old version through that it surely wouldn't be the new version or if they added it to a compressed folder and uploaded it there shouldn't be any problem about getting the old version.

The only old version I can find of ICQ is for Windows 3.11 but since I'm on Windows 98 Plus I can't use that. Is there any way to make Windows 3.11 programs work in a later version?

ok i'm kinda lost in all of this. how is it possible that you send the old version through your email, which has nothing to do with www.icq.com, yet your friend ends up receiving the new version? no way its possible, it doesn't make sense.

Oh boy... I knew this wasnt gonna make any sense.. FOR SOME OF YOU.!!

Well the thing is... on the old versions of ICQ.. they had a button on the ICQ that said "TELL A FRIEND ABOUT ICQ"...or "EMAIL ICQ TO YOU FRIENDS" or something like that... just like when you use AOL.. they have the same thing.. so I foward it to her email.. and she ended up getting the 2000 version... we didnt really care about anyways because we just wanted to chat.. but dont u think i found it weird myself.. how the hell am i supposed to know the answer to that though?
I guess their systems do that automatically or something cause it was just this year (3 years after) and i dont think they would want other people to get old versions because the new versions are somewhat better (as they say)

That's exactly what I was thinking.

Dream Girl, the reason you had that issue was because the email is sent through the icq servers which automatically send the latest version of icq off their servers.

if you had the actual install file on your pc & emailed that directly, then it would have worked fine.

Paul, have you tried 2001b?

Are you going through a firewall?

I just had a look through all my discs & I only seem to have 2000b, I thought I had a much earlier version somewhere, but it appears not to be.

it should work anyway m8, the only major difference is win98 works in 32bit.. but it is backwards compatible with 16bit.. the old version will just be slower.

Thanks for this. Just downloading one of the very old versions and installing it now! The old install program looks so familiar!

Shit I'm having problems registering on the old versions. Is there any way around this?

Hmm.
It worked well for me. I don't know much about registration problems, never had any.
