Could be an option.

Anyways, the problem isnt how or why its happening, its that it is happening. I'm sure many of us post on other boards that never have these problems. The search function shouldn't need to be taken off line every other week and under constant maintenance.

Search hasn't been down for maintenance in months, and, the last time it was taken down was in December when there were 1200+ users online - and even then it was only for 2 hours.

There are only about 47 vBulletin boards larger than TA on the net, and since TA keeps growing eventually I need a new server configuration - but not yet. Although, 3 years ago we never passed 110 users and TA was on a 500mhz machine/512 megs ram, lol.

The search you see on TA not many other forums have (I haven't seen one yet) - in terms of having different functionality to search for exact items and to optionally include certain other things. It is not a standard vB setup, it has Mysql 4 fulltext search enabled (no separate keywords index) and it has a copy of the database on another drive.

Eventually there will be a new server(s), but right now, it doesn't make sense to double my costs. A lot of the problems are search related - having people search for 'tiesto' (which can take 1 or 2 minutes) and then they keep clicking and end up doing the same search 5 times.
