-- Difference between Progressive House & Progressive Trance ?

Arrow Difference between Progressive House & Progressive Trance ?

Whats the difference between these 2 genres (if any exist)?

I think prog house is something that for example Nick Warren plays in his sets. Prog trance is Tilt, Markus Schulz etc.
Am I right? Can you ppl give me other examples?

i think the names give it away to be honest

imo it has a lot to do with the bassline...

prog house seems to be more repeditive, not to melodic, more instruments, and levels, deeper basslines for the most part, more loops, a lot of the time have big build ups

prog trance seems to be more melodic, not as "rolly," fluffier, just different sounding

most is just the difference between prog & trance but of course there are some things in the middle...
most of the time its quite easy to tell imo...

basically the difference in 2000-2003 digweed & sasha

prog. trance as a rule has a higher BPM count

Nick Warren - Live at TLV, Tel Aviv 29-04-04 is even trancier than fucking Tilt and Schulz.

Meaningful differences between progressive trance and progressive house ceased about two or three years ago, when everything melted together into one massive "progressive".

All the above posts are correct in some manner or another. Progressive trance is generally faster than progressive house, generally has different percussion, and generally has trancy synths that progressive house lacks (e.g. saws, acid lines, hypnotic melodies).

Get a 1999 Sasha set and compare it to a 2003 Digweed set. You'll see ithe difference very clearly.

Tilt used to be all progressive trance before 2000. Then they turned sharply toward progressive house with the Dark Science EP, and went that direction through 2003. Their new, Moor-fused 2004 sound of The World Doesn't Know isn't progressive trance, it's just progressive house with a twinkly lead (commonly known as McProg or American Progressive).

Markus used to be progressive trance before 2002 or so. Then he turned progressive house and spearheaded the American Progressive sound. He's not progressive trance anymore.

Oh, and the only vaguely progressive trance tracks I've heard in the past year have been:

Tilt - 12 (Orkidea Remix)
Float - Preperation [with some tech]
Nikola Gala - Subterra [with some house]
Cabala feat. Michelle Chivers - Vision of U [with some house]
Second Sun - The Spell [minus the vocals, which seem out of place for progressive trance, but that's their unique style]

I believe the main difference is in the synths. Prog trance uses more of the melody as mentioned above. True, also a slightly turned up BPM. Thus boosting that energy level up a notch. I give props to Sasha and John Digweed for tastefully bringing the house, progressive and trance genre all together over the many years.
