wonderful electronic music production class!

ok i've decided to register for some classes yesterday (btw, many have allready started b/c im a lazy sob) and i was able to get into a electronic music production class. However, this campus is pretty far and have to drive around 50mi to get to and back each day. Another thing, since classes started 2 weeks ago, i'm not yet comfortable w/ Logic 6, Mac OSX and i would need to complete a few class projects with whatever time is left so i can get points. Another thing, the $$$ for all of my classes is due tomarrow, and without this class or books included my student fees are $979.25 And to make matters worse, i'm getting paid tomarrow and i think i'll only have around $550 or so to spend. So, should i drop this class for now and wait till next semester? or should i stay in it reguardless?

There's one thing i really love about this class, it's homework!!!

The teacher gave us each a cd w/ 12 songs for us to listen to and get a feel for. Each track is different in genre and style. here's a list, and so far i'm feeling it.

Amon Tobin- "Get your Snack On" (I NEEED THIS ON VINYL!!! )
Uberzone- "Botz (Organik Mix)"
Venetian Snares- "Herbie Goes Ballistic" (this track is freaky )
Ty- "Groovement"
Autechre- "Cipater"
Electro Organic Sound System- "Turnip"
Hrvatski- "Paint it Black"
Lacarno & Burns- "Rivers"
Boards of Canada- "1969"
Squarepusher- "Papalon"
Tipsy- "Something Tropical"
mu-ziq- "Mushroom Compost"

btw, if you like eoss - turnip, check the rest of the cd, Roots Wreck Remix
hadn't ever heard of em but found it in a used bin at the local cd store for 4 bucks and got it, stayed in my smallish binder of good cds only for the past year or two

Learning music production in a class is worthless. All they can teach you is the basics. After that, the creative part is up to you.

You would be 10x better taking a music theory class.

I say this from experience, I've taken classes on both topics.

actually my music theory class starts tomarrow from 6pm-10pm.
then the next day it's from 8am-5:30pm. Meaning i can't work that day and im gonna be tired.

I'm taking music theory, its overrated. Sure, it helps but at the end of the day being a DJ is what helps you make the music you love.

being a dj is something one can easily learn by himself. music theory is not.
