MSN Virus
There's a virus going around, it sends to all your contact a file called ... hahahahahahah.pil (<----- I forgot the ext.) Do not open this file! It looks like a MSDOS shortcut.
2 ppl sent to me already, but I didn't open it.
its a .PIF...and old type of executable...
i just got it too...but mine was labeled "drunk_naked" and it was from a hot girl, so i opened it, thinking it was an image file!!!
lol then it ran, and sent itself as "hahahaa"
be carefull.
i ran a virus check after, nothing came up
Probably a variant of http://securityresponse.symantec.co...2.bropia.c.html

Dear fucking lord, when will you people learn?
DO NOT OPEN ATTACHMENTS ENDING IN .EXE, .COM, .PIF, .BAT, .SCR, OR .VBS!! EVER!!
For that matter, DON'T OPEN ANY ATTACHMENTS WITH AN EXTENSION YOU DON'T RECOGNIZE!
You are the reason why Microsoft's software is so goddamn annoying and practically non-functional. Because THEY keep getting in trouble over the actions of idiot users.

Q: Is Windows a Virus?
A: No, Windows is not a virus. Here's what viruses do:
* They replicate quickly - okay, Windows does that.
* Viruses use up valuable system resources, slowing down the system as they do so - okay, Windows does that.
* Viruses will, from time to time, trash your hard disk - okay, Windows does that too.
* Viruses are usually carried, unknown to the user, along with valuable programs and systems. Sigh... Windows does that, too.
* Viruses will occasionally make the user suspect their system is too slow (see 2) and the user will buy new hardware. Yup, that's with Windows, too.
Until now it seems Windows is a virus but there are fundamental differences:Viruses are well supported by their authors, are running on most systems, their program code is fast, compact and efficient and they tend to become more sophisticated as they mature.
So Windows is not a virus.
It's a bug.

very nice.
Ok, so someone on my list has this virus, and I keep getting these obviously infected files from her, but I'm not stupid enough to open them. Is there any way I can stop them from popping up without blocking her? She's a bit thick and will actually solve the problem eventually.
As a side note, if you live in hamilton and use cogeco for the west end of the city, and you recieved a bunch of shitty e-mails last year about this time you can blame her. She had a virus then and it ended up getting our student houses' internet connection disabled...
Stupid computer illiterate artsies.....she's lucky she's hot.
trillian is not affected, right?

This isn't high-tech like some security hole in MSN, it's just another worm making its rounds through a means (attachments) which people should have gotten the hint about 10 years.
Microsoft IS EVIL!!!!

^^ something like this is completely NOT Microsoft's fault. Worms can be distributed through any means. Hell, I could post one on TA and *somebody* out there would probably download and run it.

Linux doesn't count - we all know that the concept of typing commands into a terminal is far too complicated for the types of people who would open these attachments (except perhaps the ones who collect viruses as a hobby). |
