Worm Popper help with FTP please...

hey i'm trying to make a webpage so i can upload my demo set...
so i got a free site at http://www.freehostingsite.net/net.htm

but when i try to upload my set into the folder on ftp it says
Prohibited file name: Travels In Sound -promo-1-23-05.mp3

how do i upload my set?

thanks!

first try removing all spaces and special characters from the file name and limit its length to 8 charcters plus extention. if that doesnt work they might not allow mp3 or have a file size limitation on free accounts.

I'd imagine they probably don't allow .mp3 extensions. There also might be issues with spaces in the filename. Try renaming it to *.jpg, that's what a lot of people have been doing lately.

There's either no index.* page uploaded, or, if there is one, it's blank.

Which directory did you upload the .mp3 file to?

Posted by stevebutabi on Feb-03-2005 07:27:

i uploaded it to a folder i created called 'music'

what is an index page?

sorry i have no idea about this kind of stuff... i just want to make a web site to hold my mixes, i don't care what it looks like, it can be blank for all i care

An index.* (.html/.shtml/.php/.asp etc.) is just something that a browser will look for first, but you don't need to know about that if you're just uploading .mp3 files.

If the file has been uploaded correctly, you should be able to view it via http://djgreggimble.freehostingsite...r-file-name.mp3.

Let me know how it goes.

ok i went onto my site via ftp... i replaced the 'test' html document with a new one, but now i get this:
http://djgreggimble.freehostingsite.net

when i try to upload my file the transfer process seems to be working, then it shows up in the folder but when the folder is refreshed it is gone... it's really frustrating!

might be too big, I read through their help forum and the largest html page can be 1 meg and the largest graphic can be 2 megs. SO I doubt a song will fit.

so they won't allow you to upload it

Have you tried zipping the file and uploading it?

If you can, zip it to a file named 'track.zip' and upload it into your 'music' folder. We'll see if that works.
