I wont Hockey to come back...

I was playing pool with a few buddy's on saturday night @ a local Pub, and i looked up at the TV screen to see the International Championship Strong Man contest, and i was thinking where's the Hockey, where's the people, where's Grapes(Don Cherry)the greatest Mr. know it all hockey guy of all time. If these million doller babies dont get a deal soon i'm going to start learning the names of these juicers, cuz that will be Canada's next big sport.

This needs to be resovled ASAP!

Im absolutely furious that there's no hockey. I can't go to my Sharks games anymore!!!
Unfortunately Bettman screwed the league so hard that maybe Gretzky was right about the lockout being 2 seasons or even longer.

Besides hockey kicks the NBA's arse so hard. But on the bright side i'm watching Premiership Soccer now.

You think you have it bad. I live in Atlanta, we were finally supposed to get into the playoffs this year, (not to mention we were supposed to get the All Star Game)

Posted by karatekid099 on Feb-16-2005 06:18:

yeah that's true, with kovalchuk/heatley and the new goalie prospect I keep forgetting his name. But hey this was supposed to be the Sharks breakthrough year as well.

Posted by CyberneticAngel on Feb-16-2005 06:30:

at least both side have finally agreed on a salary cap. Granted their numbers are off by 20 million or so but at least its a start.

Argh! Only a few more hours to go until it's officially dead, though hopefully a miracle will happen. I blame the owners more, but both sides are being morons, becaue they could have come to some sort of agreement on a 1 year deal to salvage this year while they continued to negotiate on a long term resolution. In the early 90s hockey was the greatest sport, my precious Blackhawks had Roenick, Chelios and Belfour, the Canucks had a great team and there were franchises in places that made sense, like Hartford, Winnipeg and Quebec (in addition to the Canadiens). Bettman and some of the owners took what was a blossoming sport and killed it by watering down the league and putting franchises in places that have no business having big time hockey. As much as I love watching fights, the open ice version of the sport played in the last winter olympics got tremendous ratings in the U.S. and appealed toward with higher scoring and fast action. Then again even if the miracle happens, Bill Wirtz, a big advocate of the lockout, will still own the Blackhawks and not allow them on TV or resign any player that scores more than 10 goals a year for fear of actually paying them.

Sorry for the rant, but it's sad how far downhill such a great sport has gone.

as mcuh as this is both side's fault for abandoning fans, there's one state I can't get over:
during Bettman's tenure: 2 lockouts. Enough said.

I love hockey, but the NHL I despise, except for the sharks.

Posted by verndogs on Feb-16-2005 18:20:

so much for the NHL season

Posted by CyberneticAngel on Feb-16-2005 23:45:

They had better get their act together so they don't cancel another season. If I have to spend all of next winter watching the Atlanta Hawks I might just jump off of the BellSouth tower

Posted by karatekid099 on Feb-17-2005 02:18:

did anyone catch the press conferences? It was pretty much a "don't ask me ask him it's his fault" kind of deal. Like a bunch of 7th graders.
i swear as a fan i've never felt more abandoned. Doesn't look like they'll get anything resolved anytime soon.

I couldn't agree more

Look I was dreaming I realize this, both groups were far too greedy to allow for the common fan.

I blame NHLPA

Posted by LeopoldStotch on Feb-18-2005 08:37:

sorry hockey peeps .. the season is over .. and by the way it looks right now, i dont think there will be a next season either, until the nhlpa can make some agreement with the owners .. god damn it .. just take the paycut and move on .. i know taking a paycut is bad, but it would be a lot better than playing for the AHL or the russian hockey league, where pay is wayyyyy less than the final paycut the owners were asking for.. (you can rip me here .. there are times when you do it for the money, and other times you do it for your fans, who are the ones buying tickets that go to the salary .. yeah bettman is lowblowing the players with a huge paycut, but face it .. i don't think hockey revenue sales are as high as it was 10 years ago .. maybe that's why the nhl was about to file for chapter 11 to protect themselves .. they were so much in debt .. but still, the players need to think about the fans, and just play .. just imo )

but i feel you hockey fans .. i was pissed when the nba went on strike, and had to hear patrick ewing everyday with his words representing the players .. i was happy watching the cba amateurs playing, than watch patrick ewing talk .. that was how desperate i was to see some basketball ..
