Dunno Am I crazy for wanting to abandon the PC/x86 platform?

As I sit here beside me, there's a black box with an AMD Athlon64 3200+ CPU, Asus K8V SE Deluxe motherboard, 1GB of Samsung PC3200 DDR RAM, a Seagate 120GB 7200rpm S-ATA 150 hard-drive, ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 128MB video card, and I wonder to myself, what the fuck do I need this for?

All I do is talk to people on Trillian and IRC, look at the internet, do homework, and occasionally watch DVDs if someone in my family is using the DVD player. I don't play games, and haven't in almost a year now. I'm sure I've grown out of that phase.

After toying with OSX 10.3 on a friend's Powerbook at school I can't help but want to take Windows and smash it into a million pieces and then piss all over it.

I'm going Compusmart in Burlington tomorrow after class (school in Hamilton, Burlington is closer to where I'll be located than Waterloo is, which is the next closest place that sells Apple stuff) to check out iBooks and MacMinis. I need a laptop (my Jornada 820 doesn't cut it anymore) and if they have MacMinis in stock I wanna toy with one of those too.

Do any of you use a Mac currently?

Also, anyone wanna buy my PC?

{edit} No I'm not doing this because Macs look neat.

Also tell me why I'm crazy.

Yes, you *are* crazy. But if you're really set on it, I'll help you unload that PC if the price is right! Pretty nice setup by the sounds of it, and mine is struggling like f*cking hell in the high-end apps these days...

Then why are you doing it, certainly not because mac's are cheaper and you're going to save some money.

MacMini. They are cheaper. Plus OSX is (in my opinion) worlds above WindowsXP, and iWork05 with Pages and Keynote2 make Word and Powerpoint look like trash. Even the OSX versions.

VERTiG0 - PM me with a price if you're interested in selling your PC (I am located in the Oakville/Mississauga area).

BTW - yes, you're nuts

Uh... do your research first... don't jump into the whole mac thing. Sounds tempting at first.. but there are a lot of disadvantages to using macs.

crazy.
once you have that mac, you'll want to smash it into a million pieces, and make love to your black box amd machine.

Don't get rid of your sys yet

Contingency...that is the key word here

buy your mac....use and abuse it for 6 months...then if you really think that it's the best thing next to sliced toast...sell your old sys piece by piece if you have to.

I'll buy pieces off you....but not until you've truly tried out the mac and are 100% sure it's for you

Till then,
Peace

the worst part about going from PC to Mac is that you get pretty frustrated when things don't work right. We have one Mac here at school and there is always something wrong with it and it's not intuitive to figure out what it is and what to do to fix it. Even working with applications is such a piss off because you are always looking for the same sort of options that are on PC and it's hard to find them at first.

OSX is garbage. In typical Mac fashion, they sacrificed speed and usability in favour of aesthetic.

Thumbs up

Good choice, i thought of doing the same, bute the only problem is ocassionaly a lot of aplications i run on the pc dont work on the mac and other problem being the software which isnt supported by all windows devolopers.

but if i were doing that i would switch over.

I have been torn between mac and pc for a few years now...Interior Design is PC based, so baiscally that determined my decision.

Have you used OSX often?? If you can honetly picture yourself not right clicking for eternity, then go for it. What I did was I used a friends mac for about a month or so, and decided I am a PC gurl... Also the organization of drives with windows is drilled into my head, I found it hard to adjust to, I kept finding myself looking for My Computer !! Hehe.

Small things annoy me about OS, with respect to software. With MSN you cant view others profile pictures and you cant use webcam, hopefully they will release an updated version soon !! I also prefer the PC version of DC++ much better !!

Grass is always greener on the otherside of the fence bud...Do ur research and play with ur friends OSx10.3 a little more just to make sure u do feel what ur feeling and its not a short term crush.....the comfort, ease of use & application base that Windows offers is unmatched....reliability on other hand is questionable.....'Where you go from here is a choice i leave to you'
