Yes we are dirtballs
i thought we were working at getting this city cleaner.

Smog Alert: February 4, 2005
Smog Advisory

The Ministry of the Environment has issued a Smog Advisory. For regional details see: Current Smog Advisories.
Smog Watch

The Ministry of the Environment has issued a Smog Watch. For regional details see: Current Smog Watches.
Weather Summary: Issued on Friday, February 4, 2005

A high pressure ridge over southern and eastern Ontario is causing light winds and poor dispersion conditions and allowing air pollutants to accumulate and cause air quality indices in the moderate category during the next several days. Over northern and central regions with windier conditions, air quality indices are expected to remain generally in the good category.

A smog advisory is in effect for southern and eastern Ontario due to the possibility of air quality indices in the poor category in some locations during the next several days.

To celebrate I'm removing all emissions equipment from my car and running straight pipes today.

Hooray!

What people dont realize is that the air has actual gotten cleaner DESPITE the increased warnings.

The difference is that the threshhold at which we declare a warning has decreased and we have changed the way we measure air quality. Thats the part that the scare tactic media wont tell you.

Its just like all those bogus winter storm warnings we get lately.

if it scares us into cleaning up the environment then so be it.

my point is that the environment is already being cleaned up. All this is doing is driving up ratings.

Every morning I see bob hunter doing papercuts and mentioning the world envoronmental problems and global warming and all that stuff...I need some warmth

Posted by Jayx1 on Feb-04-2005 21:54:

No doubt we need to do more for the environment. But deception is not the way to do it.

Posted by k0nk on Feb-04-2005 23:40:

Bloody gross... and yet, if someone has an asthma attack due to the smog, they'll probably drive to the hospital.

Posted by k0nk on Feb-04-2005 23:43:

And Jay, the environment is not cleaned up. I looked out the window today and thought I saw smog before I heard about the smog warnings. Seeing smog = not a clean environment.

But 30 years ago you would have seen a lot more smog coming from a smaller population. Its a documented fact.

I remember being on top of the oak ridges moraine 20 years ago and seeing a brown ring around Toronto EVERY day including winter. Now when im up there this only occurs on "smog warning" days.

My point is it was far worse in the 60s before all this smog alert BS started in the media.

Posted by infinity HiGH on Feb-05-2005 23:11:

Where does it say that it was worse in the 60's?

In just about every textbook you can ever read.

Emissions technology has advanced so much since the 60s as has legislation.

Look it up and you will see for yourself.
