Ehhrm.. Was a HUGE discussion on that a while ago right here.

quote:
Send it to whoever holds the production rights on the track you want to remix. What you want to do as a new artist, is to ask for permission to do a remix on "spec". What this means is that they don't have to pay you unless they license and release it. I'm actually trying right now to get production rights from a pretty big artist, and the process I'm going through is like this:

1st Determine who holds production rights.
Get production rights.
Get in touch with the label that released the track
Obtain permission to remis the track.
Get them to send me the tracks I need to do the project, in this case the vocals.
Actually DO the remix.
Send a copy to the label AND the artist.
Negotioate royalties.
The label that released the album will decide whether to release the remix.

If they decide to release it, great.
If they decide NOT to release it, then the remix is dead.

Btw: if you have a remix pack without permission, its illegal..

this has been discussed many times already

also if you do a remix for fun and it gets released, you will not get paid for it as the label did not ask for it. it is a very good way to get in tho, as it benefits you + the label, setting up a good relation
