Most (and Least) Desirable Neighbourhoods in the GTA?

I think the most desirable neighbourhood - atleast to raise a family - is Thornhill.

My vote for least would have to be Rexdale.

favour: Yonge-Sheppard

disfavour: South Scarborough

Desirable - Yonge and Eglinton...

moved here in november '04.... and I'm surprised what a great neighbourhood this is. So many restaurants, stores, etc... never boring. and safe too.

Undesirable - Scarlem.

Queen's Quay and Lower Jarvis

also, pape-danforth (where i live)

least favourable: all the ghetto areas like scarborough and jane-finch or wutever, etc. fuken thugs and fakes!

I kinda like it here in Meadowvale in Mississauga (it says GTA right?)
Plenty of spots to session because of the giant bike-path route, 2 beautiful (but sometimes smelly) lakes and when you're lucky, you can hear the coyotes go at it for around 10 minutes at a time (howling that is, you dirty kids).

you burbs kids dont know shit about toronto.....

worst for kids : queen and sherbourne, living in the upstairs of the ghetto bar on the corner.....

and emz!!!yer nuts, south scarborough is pretty much the beaches, also my pic for most desireable area to have kids grow up in.

Favourite: Bayview and Eglinton (Leaside), The Beaches, Rosedale

Yonge & St Claire is really nice

High Park/Bloor West Village

Posted by Fir3start3r on Feb-05-2005 14:19:

Most: Beaches or Rosedale
Why : Beaches because of all the little shops and beach walkway. Rosedale because of all the amazing homes and it being sheltered by ravines from the Ghetto south of Bloor (along Sherborne) and Scarberia to the east. Oh yea, lots of bike paths too.

Least: Jane/Finch or Sherborne/Dundas
Why: Too much sillyness goes on in those areas...(and I don't mean funny silly)

I used to live at Islington and Bloor; I concur, that area is nice too!

Wrong! I live in the townhouse complex beside the Lawrence RT station and my neighborhood is very peaceful. Kids running around and people everywhere. I don't know why you guys have to keep knokin scarborough but it really ain't that bad. If you're driving around and the surroundings look like the hood then you prolly are in it but that doesn't mean the rest of the city is one.

To raise a family the most desirable places would be:
- thornhill or north of there
- rouge valley area in east end of scarborough
- beaches

least desirable would be:
- anywhere near the downtown core
- markham and mississauga

I am not that familiar with the GTA. But since living here, I must say:

Most desirable:

-Our neighbourhood nestled between the AGO and Eaton Centre. We have a great view of City Hall, and often walk by Osgoode Hall. There are beautiful townhouses around Baldwin.

-Cabbagetown west of parliament. Very beautiful. lots of greenspace.

-The annex (houses, not apartments )

-Beaches

I'm an urbanite at heart!

Least desirable:

-On Queen between Jarvis and Parliament?

-some areas of Jamestown

I really am not a good judge of the GTA. I can tell you all about Montreal, though!

Posted by StereoPrincess on Feb-05-2005 17:27:

i know more about the downtown areas.

most desirable: the annex, especially the blocks north of U of T and south of Dupont. There is some sweet ass townhouses there that look like inside design magazines.

least desirable: Parkdale on one side and Parliment/Sherbourne on the other.

Most desirable GTA suburb = Aurora, Stouffville, Ajax (close enough to the city but far enough away and people arent too stuck up)

Least desirable GTA suburb = Brampton (lots of crime recently), Oakville (too stuck up.... kids there think they are gods gift by age 4 literally)

Most desirable Toronto = Davisville, North York, Beaches

Least desirable = the usual suspects such as rexdale, parts of scarberia and flemingdon as well as downtown east of yonge and parkdale.

Posted by trancechaos on Feb-05-2005 18:48:

most desirable: north york

least desirable: anywhere downtown

Posted by Carney on Feb-05-2005 18:55:

Fav: Beaches.
east york is also pretty nice for the money

Worst: anywhere to far from the subway line or slotcar line, to far for my drunken ass to make it home after a night of boozin
