Brand spanking new computer
1 Gig of ram, 3Ghz processor, etc.
Awesome fast except for gaming for some reason. It came with an Intel graphics card, 82915G and I assumed it would be shit, although it was apparantly an upgrade from a radeon 8500 and I was told it was better (of course I knew he just wanted to make the sale).
So when I run something like Doom 3 it goes really slowely, even in the lowest settings. The menus and whatnot all load blazing fast, the opening videos and whatnot went fine but when the game starts anytime there's movement on the screen it goes extremely slow.
To make sure it wasn't just the game I tried Worms 3D and I run into the same slowdown problem during game play.
So what's the problem? Should I just format and do a clean install instead of having the shit they put on here? Should I update my drivers? I just got the damn thing yesterday
Should have made a custom computer.
Change the video settings in the games. Don't run under maximum resolution, anti-aliasing, antistropic filtering, etc...

on board graphics cards tend to "suck"
do yourself a favor, buy an AGP card (radeon 9600pro seems to be the best bang for the buck, it's around $125-135 or so)
Question, would you think that formatting the computer and installing windows again might make it work? I mean it's a new computer but maybe it's something pre-installed.
Also, my video card appears to use open GL, would that mean that it can't use direct 3d and that might be the problem right there?
i recommend you get an nvidia 6600gt AGP it should run you around $220 and you wont regret it
format it and find out.
if u dont post, then we'll assume that it didnt work
It was supposed to come with a Radeon 8000 I think but this Intel card was apparantly an "upgrade" and I was told it performs better.
I'm going to bring the computer back and make him give me the ATI card instead seeing as it'll likely be better than this thing. I'm bringing my Radeon 8500 over from my computer onto this one though and I'll see how that goes

Its the onboard video that is killing you man. Your system is fine. Go out and buy a nice video card, an Nvidia 6800 or even one of the cheaper Geforce FX series cards and you'll see a big difference. ATI cards are good too, the XT800 is pretty nice. One thing that would be helpful, particularly to me, is your 3DMark score. I have the same setup as you, 1GB Ram, 3Ghz CPU. Running the very newest 3DMark, I get a little over 1000 for a score. Running the older 2003 version, which is what I suggest you run, I get about a 6700 score. Run that and let me know what you get. With that onboard video, I bet you'll only get something in the 1,000-2,000 range.
Out of the video cards on this page which one would be a good card? prefferably one thats about 50 or 60 bucks

. As Magnus mentioned download the 3dmark01SE or 03 and see what your scores are. The links are here:
umm.. you have a card that is 2-3 generatoins behind in term of graphic power. So its sort of an downgrade if u upgraded from onboard agp in todays standard. I think you got rip off if u got the 8500 for alot in upgrading it from onboard agp. better to build your own than to buy retail unless u goto specialty shops like alienware, falcon nw, dell, and
whats teh specs?
I just got Radeon 9550 Extreme 128 mb and all the games speeded up really significantly
3DMark03 score was 776
It ran fairly well during the flying game and ran incredibly slow during the nature one.

O.K now, tomorrow I'm going to be looking for a video card and my price range is probably going to be up to about 150 bucks, my selection are the cards from this website http://www.factorydirect.ca/catalog...st.php?cat=VIDE
So what would be my best bet then?
I have a computer with an integrated video card so can I disable it?

If you checked already, disregard this part. The one boxed in white is the AGP slot and the one boxed in blue is pci. Make sure you have an AGP slot, now as for that site, I personally would not buy from that site because of the selection. Dammit if only newegg did international shipping, at the moment I cant find anything, but I know for sure a 9600 pro would be in your pricerange, keep an eye out for it. |
thats a low score for 3dmark03, check out what i got even tho i havent benchmark in a longtime
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=1663881
