I did not see this thread around...and alot of us including me dont really feel rap too much...but this is for everyone who didnt know what occured with hot 97 mourning show Miss Jones.

Yet another example of racist hate radio aired on New York's Hot 97 WQHT-FM. The hosts of the "Miss Jones in the Morning" show sing a "Tsunami Song" which mocks the dead South Asian tsunami victims and uses racially derogatory words "chink" and "Chinamen," and calls the drowning victims "bitches."

Lyrics:

"There was a time, when the sun was shining bright
So I went down to the beach to catch me a tan.
Then the next thing I knew, a wave 20 feet high
Came and washed your whole country away.
And all at once, you can hear the screaming chinks.
And no one was saved from the wave.
There were Africans drowning, little Chinamen swept away.
You can hear God laughing, 'Swim you bitches swim.'

[Chorus]
"So now you're screwed. It's the tsunami,
You better run and kiss your ass away. Go find your mommy.
I just saw her float by, a tree went through her head.
And now your children will be sold. Child slavery."

The song aired twice on the "Miss Jones in the Morning" show on January 18, 2005. The radio hosts received complaints soon after the first airing of song. They responded by playing the song again, an anonymous source told Asian Media Watch.

This comes on the heels of another racially inflammatory broadcast by the self-proclaimed "haters" of the "Star and Buc Wild" morning show on Power 99 WUSL-FM Philadelphia. Radio host Star (Troi Terrain) called a customer service call center in India, threatened to "choke" the operator, and called her a "filthy rat-eater" and "bitch."

Miss Jones (Tarsha Nicole Jones) and Star (Troi Terrain) are former co-hosts on the same radio program.

As with Star (Troi Terraine), this is not the first incident in which "Miss Jones" has made racially inflammatory comments. In response to the sale of a board game called Ghettopoly which contains racially derogatory themes about Blacks, Jones enflamed an already racially charged situation by asking listeners make their own board game called "Chinkopoly" and to call-in with their own derogatory stereotypes of Asians as retaliation towards Ghettopoly's creator who is an Asian immigrant. Miss Jones advocated retaliation towards the entire Asian American community for the act of one individual despite the fact that Asian American organizations denounced the game and its creator.

Because of the host's repeated expressions of racist attitudes and disdain towards people of Asian descent, Asian Media Watch demands a formal and sincere apology from Hot 97 WQHT-FM and parent company Emmis Communications, and the elimination of the "Miss Jones in the Morning" radio program from future broadcast.

Asian Media Watch urges concerned individuals to demand an apology from New York's Hot 97 WQHT-FM and its parent company Emmis Communications, and the elimination of the "Miss Jones in the Morning" show. A complaint may be filed with the Federal Communications Commission which enforces laws prohibiting "the broadcast of indecent programming during certain hours" (including profanity). People need to stop being so fucking sensitive. If someone's been beaten up by skinheads then that's serious, but we've all had our share of prejudice and stereotypes - it's human nature, and sympathy is running low these days.

Plus we've already had SEVERAL threads about this issue in this forum - consider this an official dead horse-beating.

This is not a case of thousands of people getting their heads hacked off. This is a case of a clearly farcical radio publicity stunt, and thousands of people worldwide have demonstrated unequivocally with their unmitigated reactionism that publicity stunts like this DO WORK!! Such behaviour only serves to encourage other people to pull the same kinds of publicity stunts farther down the line.

The line for prejudice and racism should only be drawn when that prejudice is actually a violation of someone's rights. That includes physical violence and other obvious irrational racial discrimination like losing a job because you're black or Chinese. It is DEFINITELY taking matters too far when the "idea" of racism is used to promote the violation of OTHER individual rights - in this case, freedom of speech.

Miss Jones and the producer...along with the guy who said all chinese people should be shot only got a 2 week suspension...

i jus had a deep discussion with one of my good friends about racism and racial profiling...hes muslim and some stupid idiot approached him saying "Oh dont piss mo off...or he'll bomb ur house" which is how islamic people are being profiled as.

This shit is serious...even small cases like this...

I kno for a fact that being italian im label'd as a wife beater...alcoholic...mobster etc...

No, actually, you're the one that needs a reality check, not to mention a spell check, ffs.

"Racist" speech IS free speech. It may be tasteless speech; it may be ignorant speech; it may be completely fucking morally bankrupt speech; but it is still one of the RIGHTS that our whole society is founded on. Anyone who's lost sight of that principle really ought to get the fuck out of North America. You've forgotten (or perhaps never knew) how to draw the line between an asshole and a criminal. People who rely on the law and petty protesting to settle trivial personal issues are cowards.

Sebasano - it sounds like you've got some major issues of your own to work out. I think it's been about 200 years or more since Italians have been labeled as wife beaters, alcoholics, and mobsters. There are dozens of other Italians on this board alone - none of them complain of racism. Talk to them, and maybe they can solve your identity crisis and teach you how to accept and come to terms with who you are.

Most of you don't even know what the fuck racism is. I've had very important doors closed in my life for no reason other than MY LAST NAME. I understand what you are saying. I've been around the former Soviet Union for 13 years, travelled and seen things. Personally, even though I spent most of those younger years in Russia, I've seen so much hate and jealousy towards the Russians from the neighbouring countries and other ethnic minorities. I was looked at like I was some kind of a Nazi or a killer of some kind. I heard enough curses, bad words and shit like that. There's so much hate on this planet.

i actually get some sick pleasure out of meeting racist people... just hearing those ignorant idiots rambling on about their stereotypes which makes me realize that im better educated and more aware of the world than they are ... ignore them dude they were probably raised by uncle john the farmer from the south who was exposed to nothing more but his shotgun and his horse...

i remember in 2003 when i was taking the bus to the gatecrasher party in london ... 4 drunk teenage kids apon realizing im from india asked me if i like to shag saddam hussein and then threatened to beat me senseless once i got of the bus ... i kept quiet all this time but the moment they threatened to get physical i told them if they raised one hand on me id ensure they spent the next 6 months getting sodomised in prison and they apologised and kept silent the rest of the journey ...

these kind of things keep happening and the people usually do this due to personal insecurities and unless it reaches a point where you are physically threatened its best to ignore them
