minimal / tech house / techno

Posted by Danny Ocean on Aug-01-2005 14:16:

Holden plays like acid, minimal techno, and some electro..

edit: was beat....

Posted by noikeee on Aug-01-2005 15:18:

ok, i had figured that out. what i meant is, james does play some electro even if not much, i think? i got the idea mr. Radagast was saying there he doesn't even get to touch an electro record. maybe he was just saying james holden isn't an "electro dj" cause that isn't what he plays the most, that makes sense.

Posted by Aiwendil on Aug-01-2005 16:23:

Which electro records has James Holden played.

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Aug-01-2005 16:29:

You see, Radagast only considers biscuit-tin beats and robot voices of the original electro to be "real" electro. However, electro recieved a renaissance circa 2001, and now elements of it are creeping into every type of dance music. Just because the percussion now kicks and the robot voices are a lot less common, doesn't mean it's not electro in some form.

Posted by Aiwendil on Aug-01-2005 16:37:

Eheh. Everyone's obsessed with me it seems.

A buzzing waaawaaaa synth is not an element of electro. And the percussion kicks plenty in electro. Don't know what i'm arguing about anyway, likely the only "eclectro" artists you can name are felix da housecat and T. ramamshscmire.

Anyway, check this out, this is pretty cool. Vocoder megamix:

DJ Xed again

Yeah okay whatever you win, woo hoo. Go listen to some bangin electro from the masters like fischerspooner and tiefshwarz.

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Aug-01-2005 16:52:

Kraftwerk?
Mantronix?
Afrika Bambaataa?
Herbie Hancock?
Cybotron?

Newer:

Tiefswarchz? (er... probably spelled something like that)
Fischerspooner?
DJ Hell?

Shitloads of electroclash minors such as The Infadels.

Posted by Aiwendil on Aug-01-2005 19:00:

Speaking of Kraftwerk, here's a Kraftwerk mix from Xed as well: [[ LINK REMOVED ]]

But no, i'm talking about neo electro made by people like...

Octagon Man
Japanese Telecom
MAS 2008
Bass Kittens
Michael Forshaw
Anthony Rother
Exzakt
Single Cell Orchestra
Solvent
Freaky Chakra
Jedi Knights
Two Lone Swordsmen
Aux 88

And i'm barely even into it. The first two DJ Xed mixes I posted are artist mixes of Rother and MAS 2008. Might want to check out one of my favorite Electro tracks I heard recently: Deadstock - Octarine. It's kickass. And another thing I like about Electro is that it uses all kinds of different breakbeat drum patterns, not just the same programmed one for every track.

Posted by chesco on Aug-01-2005 19:15:

model 500 - no ufo's

That is all.

Posted by DJ Mikey Mike on Aug-01-2005 19:44:

Westbam - Berlin Masters, Live At The Arena (21-05-2005)

Posted by AlphaStarred on Aug-01-2005 20:38:

Michael Forshaw doesn't make electro, he makes experimental techno. Maybe you've heard an electro track from him, but after hearing several releases, none of them were remotely close to electro. Two Lone Swordsmen shouldn't be classified as electro artists either, whether or not they've made a few tunes as such.

Posted by Aiwendil on Aug-01-2005 20:53:

Yeah I know they don't make 100% electro, and maybe not even 25% electro, my point was that you can hear some electro from them. TLS even have one of their electro tracks on their website in the audio section.

That looks like a disgrace to electro, per se. In fact, I don't even think any of that is genuine electro.

WESTBAM > anyone who has touched electro rekkids

Electroclash/tech-house perchance?

Posted by Aiwendil on Aug-02-2005 02:30:

Even Freaky Chakra and Single Cell Orchestra aren't "electro" artists. SCO leans toward ambient breaks and FC leans toward techno, but they make electro together and sometimes on their own. Just trying to give artists who have made electro. Few enough have. I guess a lot of Warp artists have dabbled in electro, even AFX, so instead of Two Lone Swordsmen maybe I should have just said Warp.
