Side Chaining

Sorry if this seems a bit 'newbeish' but here goes, im just starting out.

Can someone explain to me using reason exactly what to do with the sidechaining of the kick drum and the bass note?
exactly what components in reason to use etc.
Maybe a little tutorial would be nice.

Yea i used 'search' but it didn't really answer my question.

might not even be possible in reason

with reason this should definatly be possible. it seems the program has TONS of routing options. hopefully one of those reason nazis will pop on so0n and help ya out.. i'm not too farmiliar with the prog.

I'm sure i've seen a thread about Side Chaining in Reason. Do a seach my friend. If you don't turn anything up try using the term 'Bass Ducking' or something.

and if you're too lazy to click the link and look for the post that explains how...

quote:
Short tutorial on how to 'duck' the kick with the bassline in Reason 2.5 :

1) Connect a Scream to your Kick. Turn 'Damage Control', 'Cut' and 'Body' off (you don't want to affect the sound). Now adjust the 'Master' output control of the Scream to get the kick's level right.

2) Create a Spider CV Merger/Splitter and connect the
'Auto CV Output' on the back of the Scream device to
'Split A Input' on the back of the Spider. Then connect 'Split A Output 4/Inverse' to the 'Level CV' input of the Bassline's channel in the mixer. Finally adjust the knob under the 'Level CV' to set the
"amount of ducking".

Perhaps not as good as a real sidechain, but it makes basslines a bit tighter with the kick :

propper sidechain compression wich I guess is what your'e wanting isn't possible in reason 2.5 but you can cheat wich you'll probably find out if you do a search

Nice one, didn't realise that was a new feature on its way with reason 3.0 !

Roll on upgrade time!
