Shame / Disagreement Stay away from Sutra!

I had the unfortunates of going to this club friday. it SUCKS! its like crappy prog. house all night. This club is that 1/4th of CHili Pepper they cut off, and made everything really expensive (to feel like a South Beach club)...... but they didn't pull it off.

They use the most crappy sound system in the world, 4 intelligent lights! (thats right, 4!!), the VIP section is 2 tables right on the dance floor, and the rope that separates it is one of those cheapo ropes you see separating the lines at the airport... no fancy velvet here....

A Kahlua and milk cost me $9!!!!! NINE FREAKIN DOLLARS!! jesus christ, i could have bought a whole BOTTLE of Kahlua for that much! Drinks are a LOT cheaper at Space.

And to top everything off, the appointments in the club were for shite.... it still had that plaster-caking-off-the-walls look that Chili Peppper has so perfected over the years, a rough floor that feels like a bunch of blind one-armed intoxicated mexicans paved by hand....

...and here's the best part... i had my rave-lights with me, and right when i bust out with them, a bouncer comes up to me and tells me i have to "put them away".... HAHA. This piece of shit club that had maybe 50 people in it...... MAYBE 50, had the balls to charge these prices and have these rules? SHIT, you're NOT on south beach, morons!

... Oh yeah and Chili Pepper sucks too now. There's like nowhere left to go in Ft. Laud. Voodoo is aight, same with Stereo... but i totally don't like the crowds there.

Anyway, anyone know of a good TRANCE club down here that's not in miami? (i.e. in boca, north lauderdale, etc.?)

Wow ABT, I've GOT to respond to this one! I don't know if you've been to Stereo lately on a Saturday night, but the place goes off! I agree, Sutra pretty much sucks and the people are mostly stuck-up snobs, and as far as Voodoo, it's a little better but the music usually is terrible. Saturday nights at Stereo you've got resident DJ Garfield, who's one of the most energetic and different DJ's in South Florida. The crowd is WAY more trance oriented and raver-friendly with glowsticks and mini-lights flickering everywhere you look, and the dress code is not as tight as the other places. There are still some VIP assholes, but a majority of the people there on Saturday nights are there for the music, to dance and to see DJ Garfield. I highly recommend you go this Saturday night because Edgar V (from Space) is gonna be there spinning with Garfield, and last time these two got together it was one of the greatest nights Stereo has ever had. Plus, last weekend they put in a completely new sound and light system. Well, I guess you can't tell that I'm a Stereo regular or anything, huh! (haha) But seriously, you really should check it out this Saturday... later.

I suppose I could find out the discreet way and not embarass myself, but.......where is stereo?, and what is their dress code?. I thought of going to Space a few times, but the thought of having to dress to impress a male bouncer was a bit un-nerving, so I didn't bother. Are there any places where the music is more important than how you look or how many women you go with?.

heheh,

dude i dress up not to impress the bouncers, but just because i like to look nice.... and i have several pairs of nice clothes that are more comfortable IMO than the 'ol UFO rave-wear....

Yeah, there are clubs where you can wear anything... but they are always dump-clubs that go out of business.... There's been SOOO many that i can't even remember them all....
-the Zone
-Drumwerks
-Manray
-Collage
-Oxygen
-Sonorex
-Tunnel
-the "old" chili pepper.....

as you know the chili pepper had filed for chapter 7, but someone else bought it up, and "fixed" it up by cutting it in half (other half=sutra), and creating a dress code, raising the prices of drinks, etc.... but it just isn't the same as it used to be....

Stereo is on the corner in the Riverfront area, on the 2nd floor... across from Rush Street, right above & next to Poorhouse, and down the street (on the same block & side) as Chili Pepper... you can't miss it - only place on the 2nd floor all block really... (second to chili pepper).

...and as far as dressing up and going to space, let me tell you, Space has some of the best trance in south florida - its WORTH dressing up for. I go many a times!

Cheers!

Stereo actually isn't too bad with their dress code. I dress fairly nice because I always go with my girlfriend and other friends and that's just how I dress when I go out, but I've seen many people inside the club wearing jeans or baggy cargo pants and t-shirts. If you show up at the door wearing ratty old sneakers and nasty jeans, looking like a scrub then yes, they will turn you away, but as long as you're dressed fairly decent you will be allowed in. And I agree with ABT about Space: If they told me I had to wear a jacket and tie to get in then I would sure as hell do it because that club is worth it. I wouldn't be happy about it but I'd do it. I'll be at Stereo on Saturday around midnight...

Thanks for the feedback. About the dress code, I am not some gang banger thug wannabe, nor do I consider jeans (never owned a baggy pair) and sneakers "dressed up" but the thought of having to alter my own personal style to suit total strangers just rubs me the wrong way. I think I am better off staying home and spinning CDs in comfort
