Snowboarding

Does anybody in here snowboard? Because I am planning to buy a snowboard (used) and I dont know really much about them....... I do know how to snowboard pretty well. Im not a pro but I can skii pretty well. So I dont want a really crappy board either. Can anybody help me with some good brands of snowboards or stores I could buy used snowboards? And around how much would they cost (including the bindings)? Also I am about 5'10 to 5'11 how tall shold the board be? Thanks

buy anything lol. when i started 10 years ago I got a shitty one that had a wedge front and a flat, straight rear edge. Musta weighed 70 lbs.

I just went shopping with my friend at some shit shit shit little shitty sports store and all they had were super fly core double floater boards.

So annoyed.

so yeah, anything you get these days will be a good board and fuck you guys who want him to get the ones that fold in half a million times without breaking. That never happens.

so yeah. Id focus on boots and bindings. Personally I avoid the clickers and step ins. They dont save any time if youre with someone who doesnt have them and they dont have the light disconnected feeling the freestylers have.

Burton makes awesome freestyle bindings that are quicker than hell. For boots, find what feels good. Thats gonna be a personal issue

edit: for height...the taller the board the faster it goes and the harder to turn it is. I like boards that come up to the bottom of my neck. that extra foot off is awesome for tricks. Slows down your run a bit too for longer ride

all i can recommend is dont get a standard freestyle board if you have big feet... i wear a 14 (13 sometimes) boot and i have to ride a wide board. i hate wide boards because they're harder to carve and do tricks, but i love snowboarding anyway....

I'd suggest anything from the reputable snowboard companies. Burton, Ride, etc. For your height I'd recommend a 157 or 159. It should come up to your mouth right under your nose. If you are a beginner, go with Strap in Bindings, like orbax said - clickers and step-ins dont really do jack crap. You want the support in the ankle feet area. I'd spend the most money on your boots. Make sure you go and try them on, cuz if they hurt when you are trying them on, they'll hurt more when you are riding. other than that, there isn't much more to do besides pop your earbuds on, bundle up, and ride to some trance!

Thanks for the replies... I forgot to mention that I already have boots and they are not click-ins they are straps... around how much would a good board with bindings cost aproximatley (including bindings)?

How tall are you and what size shoe do you wear?

I have a board, boots, and bindings that I bought about three years ago and, no joke, I have ridden it 3 times. I literally bought it on a ski trip, rode it that day and the next two and have not used it since.

It's a Palmer S (Shaun Palmer) board with Switch bindings and K2 boots; it's a really nice set-up.

I live in Texas now and there's just not much boarding down here.

Anyways, I'm 6'1" and the board is the perfect size for me. The boots are a size 12.

If those dimensions fit you, let me know how much you'd like to spend, we might could work a deal!

EDIT: I just read your height in your post. at me.

im 5'10 - 5' 11 and my boots are 10.5

I had forgotten all about my board until I saw your thread.

Such a disappointment not to be able to use it.

First of all...anyone saying burton is a good company needs a good smack. Since we don't want this thread to become a brand war I'll stop there.

Just like Orbax said about the boots...its all about finding what is comfortable. So I hope the boots you have are comfortable and fit properly.

For your height a 157-159 should be a good board length or between your nose and chin. If your looking at something used then check the edges, base and the nose and tail to make sure there is no delamination occuring. The top will have scratches but those are cosmetic.

If your boots are fairly new and are made by a reputable company then I would suggest taking a look at bindings made by the company. The reason is because they are normally designed to fit each other. When you start mixing brands you can get lucky and find combinations that work or but there are some that won't at all.

If your not in a rush to get equipment you can find really good deals off of ebay for bindings.

My boots are new i've only used them in 2 ski trips and yes they are confortable... I have the Northwave - Legend boots... so i dont need boots... BRYZE I know that i Ebay is one of the best places to buy used stuff but the problem is I dont know the brands or what is a good price for something so I dont know if it is a good deal you know?

With 10.5 boots you wont necessarily need a wide board. With ebay I would set a price range and then start looking. You will be surprised about whats out there.

For brand names in boards there are tons. I mean you can go with Salomon, Ride, Rossignol, Sims, Forum, Option, Nitro and Gnu. For just starting out I would just start trying things out. I know this sounds a bit lame but its one of the true ways to find out.

but make sure your boots fit the bindings on the board. Find out what model the boots and board are and then just look it up on the net.

Generally size 7-9 is a medium binding and then 9-12 is a large binding.

If your boots are the ones that I have looked at then a set of Drake bindings would fit you very well.

Man i havent snowboarded at all this season, cuz i moved back home. I've been riding for the past 3 years in Lake Louise, Alberta. Canada where i lived and worked, if you really want the full effect of riding a mountain you have to work at the ski hill, cuz then you'll go every day.

I'm about 5'10 I ride a Option Vinsin 155 its pretty flexable to ride anywhere. If you ever want to buy an amazing board buy an Option Mirror 158 board amazing for park and back country. a decent Nitro, Option, Burton, Ride, a really good Canadian brand is 'Prior' out of Vancouver, Sanata Cruz, Never Summer, and the best Lib Tech i road a 192 before you want to talk about turning i dont think i could on that surf boad. Anyway a decent board will run u around $3-$400cdn. My binding are Burton Syncro's they are from 2003, but they're the best bindings i've owned. usualy any kind of Binding by Burton, ride, technine, Bent Metal and Drake
($2-$500cdn)are the best, never in your intire life buy step in's they suck when your in the back country or park.

My Boots are last years thirtytwo '304' model ($600cdn) the best boots i'll ever own, they mold to your feet like hockey skates. a good boot i would go with Vans or Burton ($2-$300cdn) there pretty stiff for park riding, but all this is up too you and how much money your willing to spend, and how comfortable you wont to be. good luck!!

Hey a fellow instructor laying on the tips...and hes worked in my home province.

Will see how many people agree with me on this one but...when you start buying the best of any brand then your almost guaranteed a great setup. I mean once you start buying the best it all comes down to comfort, fit, style and brand loyalty had to add that in there.

Hey Bryze, hope you been caning your board lots, even though its been abit of a crappy season, but its still good enough for me to hit the jumps and rails in the parks, w00t, should be going out again this weekend and during next week, we need to hookup sometime and hit the mountains again, hopefully Kicking Horse.
