Hakeem Olajuwan is a terrorist?

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...ex.html?cnn=yes

I would post this under sports but it's just barely "WTF" enough to go in the COR, I think.

Seriously. What the hell?

Posted by Yan on Feb-10-2005 03:41:

"Olajuwon told the AP he had not known of any links to terrorism when the donations were made, prior to the government's crackdown on the groups, and would not have given the money if he had known."

I dunno... I want to believe him but... The world we live in.

Posted by AwakenedAddict on Feb-10-2005 03:44:

I love how they just casually threw it the part about him presently being in Jordan, studying arabic...

TERRORIST!!!

Oh dear...

Posted by Dmatrox on Feb-10-2005 04:31:

most of you have supported "terrorism" by buying drugs

the guy gave back to his roots, its not his fault that money eventually went to terorists. just such a media blowing it out of proportion.

LOLLERSKATES

ROFLCOPTER

The "we all hate America" gig has been done to death. It's last week's news.

Let's keep it there, shall we?

If you have nothing productive to add without bashing then DON'T POST. kthnxbye

Yeah fuck that. He contributed to a building of a mosque , its not his problem where the funds went after he wrote it out for a specific purpose.

Posted by wwu.punisher on Feb-10-2005 04:57:

I, personally, think it's bullshit. Olajuwan was a badass basketball player, a stand-up guy, and I don't think he'd ever have anything to do with terrorism (knowingly, at least).

Posted by LeopoldStotch on Feb-10-2005 05:24:

this is typical .. i can't comment if or not he did aid the terroists or not .. what the professional players do in their private lives is their business ... not ours ..

for example .. muhummad abdul-rauf (aka chris jackson) .. i never would have thought this guy would end up converting to muslim .. (if people need to have their memories refreshed, he was a really good point guard that came out of lsu, circa the same class as shaquille oneal .. oneal and jackson were a force back then..) .. he was a nice guy, until he converted .. all of a sudden his attitude changed 180 degrees .. i guess you guys know what happened next with his basketball career ..

but what's next?? are we going to say dikembe mutombo aided militia fighters with money to buy illegal nuclear weapons in nigeria ? .. how about tony parker .. are we going to say that he is a "french fry" ?? how about dirk nowitzki .. are we going to suddenly find out his roots did go back to adolf hitler? .. are we going to say toni kukoc aided croatia militants to take out croatian citizens ?? ..

this, like the stories i made up, are nothing but far fetched, and probably scratched from story lines by the end of this week ..

lol!!!

"There is no way you can go back in time," Olajuwon said in a telephone interview from Jordan, where he is studying Arabic. "After the fact, now they have the list of organizations that are banned by the government.

first read that and thought michael jordan was teaching him arabic

Posted by Floorfiller on Feb-10-2005 05:30:

but hakeem has the dream shake...he can't be a terrorist hehehe

hahahaa .. true .. hey, if madonna can teach kabala to people, then i guess michael jordan can teach arabic right ??

you know what?? i wonder why michael jordan hasn't bought a city in jordan to name it after his first name .. it would go like michael, jordan .. the state of montana has a city named joe .. joe, montana .. hahahhahahaha ..

*waits for Dekembe Mutumbo and Manute Bol to also be linked to terrorist funding groups*

It happened to Cat Stevens, so frankly, i'm really not that surprsied about Olajuwan being cited as a terrorist as well.

Posted by kamil on Feb-10-2005 14:14:

im sure if i tried to enter the states id be rejected pretty quick cuz im sure im a "terrorist" too since i "terrorize" people online.....

im getting really SICK of that word.....terrorist.....terrorist.....terrorist.......only thanks to america, i mean, ANYONE who does something bad is a terrorist..... this has gone way out of hand........

Posted by mto on Feb-10-2005 14:17:

I think U.S. will forever try to find terrorist activity within the Islamic community due to the fact that we lack so much information about their culture.

Posted by kamil on Feb-10-2005 14:21:

theres more to your friggin terrorism then just islam

try travelling the world with an american flag patched onto your bag or clothes. your not gonna be treated very well.

"you know your country is WRONG, WHEN................"

Posted by State of Matter on Feb-10-2005 14:34:

Typical generalizations from kamil.

Same shit, different day.

Anyways, Olajuwon was my favorite player back in the day. "Terrorism" is the new fad now that furbies are out, I'm not surprised the media has decided to blow this completely out of proportion. Whatever, it'll die down in a bit and nobody will remember it as soon as they reveal some other "terrorist."

I wouldn't let it phase you.

Yea, it's the modern equivalent of McCarthyism in the 1950s

Wouldn't a terrorist be someone that attacks weak countries who attempt to nationalize their oil supplies?
