Respect for Trance, Techno and other EDM
This thread was initiated because I read the thread titled "What does trance mean to you" but I wish to digress.
I've had many arguments with many people who don't think that dance music especially the kind we here prefer, deserves the same respect as other mainstream genres, rock being the principle choice of the people I have argued with.
I've been told for example:
"you can't describe a feeling with dance music cos it has no lyrics".
"dance music is all about making you feel good, there is nothing else"
"anyone can do it if they learn how, cos you have to use a computer"
"the computer does most of the work for you"
"not everybody can play a guitar"
I can't remember the myriad of points I have heard or spewed because I have argued so many points on this subject and I fully respect the time and effort that goes into ALL forms of music. I'm a student sound engineer and do not work with dance music 24/7 (had to get that bit in) but i'd like to hear other peoples views and preferably similair experiences, i'm sure there have been many.
Many many thanks to all who post as this subject means a lot to me.

Dude I love all music. All genres of EDM, rock, punk, jazz, soul, hip-hop, reggaeton. I don't mind anything. If the track/song/tune appeals to me and if it makes me feel good.. i don't care what it is.

| Originally posted by mto Oh and I love classical music. And yes dance music deserves the same respect. Messing with knobs, synths, mixers, turntables and etc. takes talent to do it right. Therefore, like any other music, its art and it deserves respect. |

| Originally posted by sandstorm03 how can you possibly group all thoes together... they all have their "clicks" the same people that listen to classical probably dont respect rock the same way... edm(trance,house,techno...) for the most part probably has the most "un normal" for lack of better words culture. |

. And this happends yearly... so to call it un-established is false...

The best music is classical music IMO, I like my Film scores, especially the Lord of The Rings soundtrack. Beats any EDM any time, any where.
