Fight Club (Spoilers as with any movie thread)

God, I love this movie, I just watched it again. I just got it on Thursday, after seeing it probably 10 or 12 times before buying it. I still get goosebumps when I watch the end and the buildings are blowing up. It's got a weird, destructively beautiful quality that I don't really know how to explain.

Fuck, that movie rules.

but I remember when I bought it way back years ago...I watched it everyday at least once during the whole month of november....

classic.

Better than the book too.

Rarely see that.

Personally, I really did like the book, but the movie and the book are drastically different in how they're presented. I don't even compare them. The visuals in the movie are phenomenal, but they leave out a few key parts. Such as the very end of the book, where we find out the narrator was actually the alternate personality. Or at least that's what I got from the part where he went to heaven.

brad pitt and edward norton are such great actors...that's why the movie turned out so damn well...they fit and played their roles perfectly...

I think that they're comparable.. They are both the same source, so when you out weigh the good / bad of both, the script carrys alot more of the good than the book.

When comparing a book to a film it's usually by script, at least for me.. Visuals and etc. were good, but it wouldn't have been good without a good adaptation..

But there's so much more in a film. It's like comparing a song to it's sheet music or it's written lyrics.

Agreed.

The ending in the book was ok, but it gave a totally different emotion than the one the book gave. In the book, He is put into a mental institution which, like police stations, maitainence staff, and bus drivers, has been infiltrated by Project Mayhem. The men keep encouraging him and the doctors keep coming, while the author (Chuck Palahniuk, a good author) tries to create some death/heaven symbols.

What if you were a split-personality, creating alternate realities for yourself and you started a revolution; by the time you realized what was happening, you were locked in a mental institute, unable to do anything but idly watch and know you'll be protected?

True. I'm reading the book right now. I'm planning on renting the movie again sometime as I haven't seen it in awhile. If I remember right, you don't exactly get his total obsession with what people are wearing, correct?

no you don't. Its been years since I watched it, but it is way more obvious in the book than in the movie. You still get the business card thing and a few others....but it movie is out of order and skips a lot of great scenes that I thought were really important in the book.


luckily I read the book for a lit class in college so we looked into every chapter...so I really understand it...I think thats why I think it is sooo much better than the movie.

Unfortunately, our school has this dumb "Silent Sustained Reading" every 3rd period. I'm always afraid someone's going to look over while I'm reading one of the very detailed sex parts, lol. I love the part with the Chinese delivery boy, though.

Exactly my point..

On the other hand, someone can read a script and it's really damn good. Then in the hands of the wrong director, it get's totally destroyed.

Take True Romance / Natural Born Killers.

Both "Tarantino's" style. True Romance turned out pretty damn good, when N.B.K. didn't so much. Go back and compare the two scripts to the movie's and you can definitly see the difference.

So eh, I don't agree with you =p.

ha, yea they get graphic at times. Especially in the three girls chapters. One of the coolest thigns is later after most all the girl scenes and all teh degrading, he just says that he has 3 vaginas in his locker. thats all he reduced women too....vaginas.



we also read another sweet ass sicko book called the end of alice by A.M holmes....great pedo book.

i think they're complementary. they're almost parallel in interpretation and genius. the movie has certain factors that the novel doesn't, but it also took some away from the original. 'i want to have your abortion', for example, compared to 'i haven't been fucked like that since grade school'. both classic
and the ending.

My fav movie of all time, when I finally figured out what was going on the first time I watched it, I was like OMG no way!!
