edit: I'm preparing for exams right now, but I'll give it a proper listen very soon and post a short review.
Ok, so here's my review:
Everything But The Girl - Wrong (Todd Terry Remix)
Sultan - Night Visions (Original Mix)
First track is a good track to start with, but I would have prefered a tune with a cool intro! Good beatmatching, then we get to one of my personal highlights in this set! That Sultan production is damn beautiful and it has lovely vocals!
PQM - You Are Sleeping (Vocal Mix)
BC - Switch It (Main Mix)
The mix gets much deeper and groovier now. The transition to PQM comes a bit too early in my opinion, but once again a good job on the beat-matching! The track itself is very cool! Next transition could have been done better, because it's clearly noticeable that you pitch "You are sleeping" (it get's a lot slower) and the beats don't go perfectly with each other.
I don't like the "Switch it" tune.
G Club & Banda Sonora - Guitara G (Original Mix)
Miguel Migs - Feel It (Deeper Mood Mix)
Physics - Blue Flame
Some minor beat-matching problems during the transition to this track. The tune itself is ace! Sounds that bring back summer memories! Reminds me a bit of Coco & Villa - La Noche (probably because of the guitar
), which is one of my favorite house tunes.
I was hoping for another track in the style of Guitara G and yes, after an OK transition I was listening to the relaxed sounds of Miguel Migs. Nice!
Good beat-matching and we're in "Blue Fame", which is a very decent track, too. It only lasts a few minutes before "Nameless" is mixed in very well.
PQM - Nameless (Sweet Vox Pass)
So now we're back into some deeper sounds with sweet vocals just as "Sweet Vox Pass" promises. Next transition is very well timed. The bassline of the well-known Deep Dish is introduced while you're still listening to the vocals of "Nameless". Good beat-matching!
Deepdish - Flashdance (Original Mix)
Well, I think everyone knows this track. Good choice!
Some minor mixing errors at the beginning of the next transition...
Felix da Housecat & Nina Simone - Sinnerman (Heavenly House Mix)
The set gets an electro house touch with this track by Felix da Housecat. It's an OK track, but the vocals suck big time.
Very good mixing and we're in some deep house track again.
Soul Providers - Midnight Horns
Miguel Migs - Mi Destino (Mig's Summer Delight Mix)
Kaskade - I Feel Like (Original Mix)
David Morales & Lea-Lorien - How Would U Feel (Extended Mix)
This one comes from the Soul Providers and has the latin and jazz influenced sounds you mentioned earlier.
Next transition: good timing and quite good beat-matching. Once again a nice laid-back track by Miguel Migs.
Good mixing and we're listening to "I feel like", which is in the same style as the previous tunes.
The last track is mixed in well. It has a beautiful piano in it and I like Lea-Lorien's voice!
All in all I really enjoyed listening to your mix! Track selection was very good and there were no trainwrecks in this set. Beat-matching can be improved, but was good most of the time. Concerning buildup and flow I think that "You Are Sleeping", "Switch it" and the part starting with "Nameless", finishing with "Sinnerman" don't fit in. Maybe you should have done it like that:
PQM - Nameless (Sweet Vox Pass)
G Club & Banda Sonora - Guitara G (Original Mix)
Miguel Migs - Feel It (Deeper Mood Mix)
Physics - Blue Flame
Soul Providers - Midnight Horns
Miguel Migs - Mi Destino (Mig's Summer Delight Mix)
Kaskade - I Feel Like (Original Mix)
David Morales & Lea-Lorien - How Would U Feel (Extended Mix)
Everything But The Girl - Wrong (Todd Terry Remix)
Sultan - Night Visions (Original Mix)
Deepdish - Flashdance (Original Mix)
Just my 2 pence...
Keep it,
Cheers,
Marcel
Hey, I really need to thank you for taking the time to do that analysis, I really appreciate it. I'm glad that it's the beatmatching rather than the music selection that needs work, because one is much easier to fix than the other. We will have to agree to disagree about the vocals of Sinnerman however; Nina Simone is a classic voice of jazz.
I have to say, that's an interesting set order. I'll have to think about that one. In any event, thanks again!
