Midwest TA meetup party?

This has been discussed in the "EDM Drives local man insane" thread for the last couple days, thought I'd get the ball rolling around on this idea for everyone...

Basically it's not going to be easy to pull of logistically, but some ideas that have come up are towards the end of May/Beginning of June (For all of us who need to work on Graduating from school), we'd need a venue (house, land, something...)

Essentially this would take a decent amount of planning and the only reason I started this thread was to gauge interest, but this could be a great time to share tips/tricks, and just party to some EDM in an area it's not really all too prominent...

just rambling thoughts... let's hear what folks think.... Cheers,

RJT

i think its definitely doable, there is some real nice land outside of the downtown madison area, and i know there's a decent number of people interested.

i'm all for it...but i gotta worry about graduating first

I'm down if you guys arent against a minor showin up. I'll be 18 in august

also, if there is a good DJ at summerfest this year, we definately gotta plan a meetup there, but thats 5 months off...

I may get flamed away, but i recall a *rave* happening sometime in wiso in the wrmer months, if someone can find info that could be a good cross over.

Or rent a bus or/van and all pile over to WEMS in canada. Smeone will just have to pull the trigger and make/set a date.

are you talking about blueshift? that's in early august....

yeah, we should do something like this.....i'm down

Posted by buchnaner on Feb-16-2005 02:51:

what's WEMS in canada? edm music fest? never heard of it...

Posted by tylerc on Feb-16-2005 02:52:

i'd be down too.

i think madison would be a prime spot to do it. its pretty central to the midwest. 4 hrs to minneapolis, 2 to chicago, 1 to milwaukee.

i may have a lil bias tho....

Posted by jam.iii on Feb-16-2005 03:18:

u know i'm in, and i got lots of hot new records to share so, with rturn, me, and wong, this will also double as the uber TA hippie's unite party hahah

and hey its tylerc, i didn't know you were from the midwest!

i wonder what would be a better idea, trying to organize an indoor / outdoor event at someones house or trying to find a place we would rent out. if this ever happened it would be very cool and it would probly start a tradition

Yeah, this is great to see some enthusiasm, and Madison sounds perfect to me (Especially as its only a 2 hour drive for me )! Finding a venue is definitely going to be a bit tricky unless someone **magically** knows someone/has their own farm/house with a decent amount of space for us to rock... Once we find that, we quote "Pull the trigger" on a date and go from there

The one thing I think we should consider immediately though is just who/how many folks will be here. I know it sucks to have to consider this, but that Ashcroft fellow got a lot of laws passed that *could* get us in trouble... Definitely not trying to be the downer because I want this to go down as bad as anyone, just trying to think of as many details that we will need to consider as possible...

In any event, I think this could be a fuckin blast, and it would be a real good chance for us Wisco DJ's to just get out and perform live. I could sit in my room and spin records for hours, and have that be "what I do" for the rest of my life and be happy I had a set of decks. But man when I have a crowd, and that crowd gives me some good vibes, the feeling I get is better than any sexual experience, any drug experience, any experience I've ever had.

I know this post originated from my crazy experience last Sat, but even on a night that ended so poorly, I have this memory of one girl from that night. I know there were other people in the room, and I was watching them too, but this girl was just locked in on the tunes, and just really paying attention to what I was doing, and it really freaked me out at first. But then, almost instantly, I felt responsible for this girls night, like I needed to figure out what she needed to hear, and the rest of the crowd would follow. There wasn't anything physical about it, and at the end of the night I could care less if I ever see this person again, but for the hour and a half I had on the decks before the "unpleasantness," she was my inspiration. And when I would catch her get a little more into dancing, or even just watch a smile come to her face it provided one of those indescribable feelings that can only come along with live performance (Regardless of what you're playing).

A bit of rambling, I know, but for any MW TA DJ's out there who haven't had an opportunity to throw for a group outside of their bedroom, I figured maybe this would help urge you on to a MW TA Party!

Cheers,

RJT

one thing to safeguard from this is do what the raves did in the 90's and like audiognomes do now, announce the location DAY OF, on the sly to prevent any kind of law cracking down on us crazy ravers

or if we wanted to do this in a club venue there are plenty of places around here we could pitch it to. granted it would then be a 21+ event, but in madison you can have a piece of construction paper and a stick figure on it and it will pass for an id.

Posted by Omega_Blue on Feb-16-2005 06:22:

... I'm down. fuck the planning, we should just get a list of people who would be willing to spin for free, pick a date, pick a place, and then just word of mouth it to everyone's friends. get some barrels, get a loud ass PA, and we'll have a bash. and if we ended up somehow having it in a club (which I'm doubting severely), then D-Res would be screwed. but fuck him anyways

... and if we can't find a place, I suggest we go old-school and break-in to an abandoned warehouse.

just remember... best meeting place is the lemonade stand.

"we're at the LEMONAAADE STAAAAAND!!!!"

you know i'll be there though. i'm a summerfest junkie!

as for the MWTA's meetup, i'm definitely down for it. i don't spin but i'll come chill with you fools and dance my ass off while i drink all the beer. madison is a good idea, but it'd be too far of a far drive for those in Detroit, Ohio, Indy, etc... i think someone mentioned Chicago was the most central location in the other thread.

i just remembered the conversation i had with some CTA's about a TA trip to NY. imagine renting a huge camper or whatnot and driving across the US!! shit that'd be fun.

Hell yeah, no offense to the earlier poster but a club-venue 21+ event? You can't be serious..

Count me and anyone from Detroit I can round up. I know at least 4 people out here that would go. If you're gauging interest it's definitely here.

Posted by tylerc on Feb-16-2005 20:49:

Why would I not be serious??

You should realize that about 90% of the people that would do this come from either college dorms, their parents house, or a small ass apartment.....not exactly party friendly places.

There has been a crew throwing psytrance events in some barn about 30 minutes outside of Madison, I could ask them for some info if it sounds good.

that's what i was thinking too, the audiognomes, you should ask them and let us know any info

Posted by Zilax on Feb-16-2005 22:47:

I'd be in.

I should've expounded my thought a little more...

I was thinking that throwing an event at a club, making it 21+ excludes a LOT of people that might want to come. Around here I've got friends that can't come out with us and enjoy good music, good dancing, and good friends just because somebody thinks they're not old enough to.

I'm thinking that if the idea is to get as many midwest TAs to meet up as possible, we don't want to hold it at a venue that exludes a significant number of them.

But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong

hey....i didn't know audiognomes had barn parties! a barn would be perfect. i'd spin for free, and i know plenty others who are decent DJs and would spin for free as well.

why not have a MWTA meetup every month or two?

i also think the madison area is a great place to have it.
because i live in madison. plus there's lots of rural area for an outdoor party if we want to do that
