ShoPro Entertainment Licenses Naruto Anime
Reported by: Tazmo on Tuesday, February 15th, 2005 at 02:51PM
Edit: We just got off the phone with ShoPro Entertainment and they have confirmed the reports. The NARUTO anime series is indeed licensed by their company. Once we are able to contact another representative from them next week we might know more details such as when the first release will be made. Read the full article pertaining to the license. You can contact ShoPro here.

The Naruto anime series has now officially been licensed for distribution in North America and Latin America by ShoPro Entertainment (responsible for Sonic X, InuYasha, Hamtaro), a division of VIZ LLC which is responsible for the Naruto manga series in North America. This will inevitably mean that soon we will be seeing a dubbed version of Naruto anime. It has not been revealed when the first release of Naruto will be, or when production will officially start but we will let you know as soon as we know. As of now we can say that many things in the Naruto community will remain the same, AonE has said they will not drop Naruto as a series they subtitle. ANBU however is likely to drop the series completely, while Dattebayo has not made an official comment on the matter. We should all still expect to see Naruto Episode 122 coming out RAW tomorrow, from SaiyaMan or L33T Raws, I suspect they will not let us down. Our BitTorrent page is in jeopardy, and we warn everyone that it will be removed very shortly as AnimeSuki will be removing it, and ScaryWater is likely to remove the BitTorrent tracker that contains Naruto. Its hours are very limited.

Despite how many people think this is terrible news, there is a silver lining to all of this. We will make our opinions and voices heard by the people who are going to be dubbing Naruto, and if they are smart hopefully they will listen to the needs of diehard Naruto fans who have adored the series for years. Also as a result of this license we are gauranteed to see many great Naruto products avaliable in stores for us all to buy. Naruto video games will be coming, and every other good thing you would think of coming with any mega popular series. I suspect an English Naruto Card Game, action figures and all of those goodies. As long as the anime remains fairly intact, and are made to the standards we all expect, I will be a huge supporter of ShoPro in their efforts to bring Naruto to us, as I'm sure many of you will. If they do well DVD sales will be great and Naruto will be recognized as a smash hit. If they don't however, it will be one of those lost cause animes that will come to America, and not go anywhere. Don't let us down, ShoPro.

well at least Aone isn't dropping the series

I hope they give it a rap song intro like what they did to "One Piece". Ugh.

Here's some more news, by the way.

Cartoon Network today announced several major acquisitions for their venerable Toonami action-animation block. Fan-favorite "Naruto" will join the block in the third quarter of 2005, while "One Piece" will move to Toonami in May. Toonami original IGPX will expand into a full series from Production IG. "The Batman" will see a Toonami airing beginning April 2, ShoPro acquisition "Zatch Bell" will start in March, and nosehair-fighting anime "Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo" is coming in the fourth quarter. The show will be aimed at young viwers and their parents. Which most likely means we will be seeing the same highly criticized translations that appear in the USA manga, I guess it will be just like American One Piece!

How on earth did you come to that conclusion? This is the first animerelated thread I've seen on TA for several months.

Never heard of it, but a quick browse through that website tells me its pretty odd, and thus I would probably enjoy it

it seriously sucks that it's been licensed. again the greedy americans are ruining something good and the rest of the world won't get a chance to even take a part of the ruined stuff :/

BAH!

true, but I'm not very fluent in the japanese language unfortunatley so some subs would still be needed. Unfortunatley american subs (licensed, not fansubs) ain't exactly known to be...good so that's not an option either

Considering anime has become quite mainstream in the USA, I don't think it can be considered being "greedy" anymore. There's a huge industry that constantly needs stuff from Japan... considering that's where anime comes from.

Beck is hard-f*ckin-core.

I'm going to pick up a guitar this weekend, actually. That's how motivated the anime's gotten me.

NOW THIS IS GOOD NEWS.

hahha did you see this show before? About a guy with a huge afro? It seems perfect.

I never watched naruto. Way too long.

I am really liking Samurai Champloo, the new episodes are getting better and better. 20 and 21 just destroyed me.

also, yakitate, school rumble and sunabouzu are really great for comedies right now.

so sad goodbye fan subs.

Posted by Yan on Mar-03-2005 05:44:

Eh. I don't care anymore, actually.

Viz is doing a GREAT job on the manga so I'm content. The anime dub will just be for laughs.

Hrmmm read the manga, then watch the tv series of this, then the two movies, its sooooooo goood, the tv series is so so, it runs some jokes a bit much, but it stays fairly balanced, but the movies, god the movies are seriously sooo good.

maybe I'll check it out then (but not the manga, cause they are too expensive). right now I'm watching Ai Yori Aoshi though. I'm halfway through the series.. It's ok, but went downhill after they moved back to that huge house.
