The pertinent information can be found on the Canada Border Services Agency website at the following link: CBSA website (link) |

Bottom line is that most commercial freight companies (UPS, Fedex, and others) require a commercial invoice and any applicable customs forms be completed and included with the waybill before shipping. This speeds up the process with the customs brokerage involved in the shipping process... the invoice declares the value of the goods being shipped and also must match the insured value of the shipment. It's never wise to ship items of such value without insurance. |

Anyway, I had the vendor ship it to me as a replacement part. Didn't cost me a cent extra, and had full insurance. |

| Originally posted by Orko wow, good choice, thats one nice player, and if i had the money, that would be mine too. But the iriver players are now avaiable in canada!!! so dont go buying it from over the border before you look around. www.canadacomputers.com they sell it, just give them a call for a price quote. Also there are a couple of places downtown in the Eaton Centre, which also sell iriver gear, check them out. |
So if I'm buying a laptop from somebody and getting it shipped ($400 for an IBM Thinkpad R50, the guy had no idea what it was - liquidating a business!), what should I have him declare on the package? What sort of taxes am I going to get nailed with?
I will only tell you if you promise to spell what properly.
