Level of music education?
So what kind of music education do you producer's have? Who's self taught? Who's done some small courses? Who's done full blown college courses? How much has what you've done helped?
I'm currently pursuing my Bachlers with a double major in music and computer science.
After undergraduate studies, I plan to pursue a masters in Computer Science.
i am not a music major but every semester i have taken a music theory class. for the most part i am self taught
The more I hear, the more I wish I'd done something music related in college. Ah well I suppose my design background is creative. I'd hate to be doing business or something. No offence to anyone doing business, just not for me.
hate to make you guys jealous, but i've been musically trained since i was 5 years old and i play 4 diff instruments, have the equivalent of a college degree in violin, taken 8 different theory courses, and played with many different genres of music from rock, classical, jazz, musicals, and of course electronic 
and boy it helps... i have no problem making melodies each time.... however, the thing that i have trouble with is sometimes i put such a high standard on myself that i don't get anywhere with producing...
no formal musical education here. i have an english degree and most of my formal work constitutes essays and textual analysis. ive been playing guitar self taught for 8 years. ive been producing for 1 year, again self taught.
I used to take piano classes when I was younger, I stopped that when I moved. I've been seriously producing for 4-5 months, and I've been self teaching myself piano for 8-9 months now. Damn you all with formal training! 
I've been producing since late 2001...and self-taught
its been extra difficult at times with no guidence...and having to deal with A.D.D.
But luckly my stubborness rules supreme...
i've read and looked at countless sites...but have noticed that music theory isnt all that...i would say that training ur ear...and using ur imagination is best.
To be honest people who are sef-taught are better in my eyes...we have less persuasive attitude with how it should sound...rather then how we want it to sound...
music is expressive...and universal in format...there is no right or wrong...but of course there must be some tasteful aspects to it.

i have played piano when i was kid and guitar when i was teen.
my wife have finished grand 1 in piano education
I have an A-Level in Music Technology, that was kinda cool to do. Self taught piano too.....

I have played piano for 8 years.
I studied music-therapy, this was good to get to know music from a different side and also to learn alot about music-theory.
I learned to play drums and piano in music-school but in the first place I'm autodidact. I started playing piano when I could reach the keys ;-) played alot in bands (drums, vocals) and played around with keyboards since I was 12. I also like percussions, this fits withs trance music because in my eyes its often tonal rhythm. But I never had this possibilities like now where I have this killer production-softwares. Alot to learn tho

Not only do I not have *ANY* formal music education, but I literally sucked ass at every instrument I attempted to play through school (Except Piano, I prolly coulda learned a little more than "When The Saints Go Marching In" if i stayed with it)
I do not find this to be a drawback in the production world, because a lot of it is more technical than musical, which i have always excelled at. I understand how computer programs work a lot better than I understand how to train my fingers to only hit one key at a time.
I wish i knew a little bit more about playing chords and key clashing, but i seems to be able to get by just going by ear for what sounds right. EDM tends to throw a lot of music theory out the window anyways (Aphex Twin anyone?)
Got a B in GCSE Music last year and i am currently studying A BTEC National Diploma In Music Technology.

self taught... and i almost failed the music lessons in school.. hehe
