Getting Above & Beyond in Toronto????

i know these types of threads are becoming very repetitive these days...but honestly...why can't toronto book these guys again??? they (paavo) were here in august 2003 i believe, and played at a shitty venue (sound emporium) and it was such a tease. why can't these guys get booked at a big club in toronto again? what the deal?

I'd sign the petition...what a goooooood Essential Mix

I wish clubs would collaborate more often.

The big problem is likely money, right? ie. coming up with enough to get big names over here. If they're coming for only one night, they probably want airfare, accomodation, etc. etc. etc.

So why don't a few big clubs in the country get together and co-promote more often?

We often see the same DJ doing back to back nights at Guv and Aria, for example...so why don't they do more of that? Get one or two other "big" clubs in the country, or even across the border, to share some costs and provide larger incentives for DJs to come?

the thought of 3, 4 or more guaranteed gigs should be enough to get pretty much anyone over here, no?

Above & Beyond
Matt Darey
Thrillseekers (were in montreal on NYE, I know)
Chicane
Ozgur Can (gotta have some variety here, lol)

come on promoters!!!

Actually, the Thrillseekers cancelled their gig NYE but that's beside the point.

both Above and Beyond and Thrillseekers suck so much that i cant even understand how they are still producing tracks, all of their releases got the same sound, nothing new.

how you can compare them to Chicane or Matt Darey....

are you guys both coming to Marco V...or Scott Bond next week?

cause if so, I'm going to bash both your heads together for such blasphemy

there's nothing wrong with unique, consistent sounds (chicane, thrillseekers have both)...Matt Darey (aka Li Kwan) is a trance legend, IMHO, and along with Ferry, Tiesto, Oakie, etc. got me into trance in the first place...and Above & Beyond have given us some great PROPER trance.

shame on both of you

first of all leave chicane out of that list as he is classic old skool.

second, lets see what Matt Darey released since start of this year.
Matt Darey Feat Marcella Woods - Liberation (Lys & Gigi Club Mix)
Matt Darey Feat Marcella Woods - Liberation (Lys & Gigi Radio Edit)
Matt Darey Feat Marcella Woods - Liberation (Andy Bagguley & Genix remix)

Matt Darey Feat Marcella Woods - Liberation (Ian Betts Club Mix)
Matt Darey Feat Marcella Woods - Liberation (Chiller Twist Club)
Matt Darey Feat Marcella Woods - Liberation (Chiller Twist Club edit)
Matt Darey & Marcella Woods - Beautiful (Matt Darey Original mix)
Matt Darey & Marcella Woods - Beautiful (Pulsar Remix)
Matt Darey & Marcella Woods - Beautiful (Astuart chrichton accoustic mix)
Matt Darey Pres Mash Up - Liberation (Ferry Corsten Remix)
Matt Darey Pres Mash Up - Liberation (Solar Stone Remix)
Matt Darey & Marcella Woods - Voice of an Angel (Matt Darey mix)
Matt Darey - Moody (Matt Darey Mix)
Matt Darey - Nocturnal Delight (Matt Darey mix)
Matt Darey - Nocturnal Delight (Sandler Remix)
Matt Darey - Electro Buzz (Matt Darey Mix)
VA - Matt Darey Pres Decade (mix)

lets see what thrillseekers got this year.
Reflekt feat. Delline Bass - Need To Feel Loved (Thrillseekers remix)

end of the list... WOW! i can count huge amount of Synaesthesia remixes from 2004 but this track is deffo overplayed!

lets see what above and beyond got for us
Above & Beyond Present Tranqui - Getting Away and
Ferry Corsten Featuring Shelle - Holding on (Above & Beyond Remix)
seems like Above & Beyond use one set of loops and samples for every track they get their hands on....

i am really disapointed in them lately.

p.s.
while browsing archive, found Britney Spears remixes by Above & Beyond... Pfft.....

ofcourse they do,do you want all your tracks in ur collection/archive/mp3 player or whatever to sound exactly the same way?
i guess not,the deal is thrillseekers and A&B are stuck in the past)

Posted by MarkT on Feb-19-2005 21:35:

you say "stuck in the past"...I say CLASSIC SOUND

Matt Darey's Liberation is a track from YEARS ago...as is Ferry Corsten's remix...that stuff is not from this year, lol. If other people are remixing it...how does that mean that Darey himself has been busy (Li Kwan alias notwithstanding)?

that thrillseekers remix of that Reflekt track is incredible...come on, no bashing...if you don't like A&B or Thrillseekers, that's fine...but that just tells me that you don't like that style of trance...yet you like Chicane, lol. I'm confused.

newer doesn't automatically = better

I'm not bashing...I love all those guys...and all types of trance...Matt Darey definitely *needs* to be brought to Toronto

I'm not even going to dignify that with a response. lol

i know the liberation track is old,but remixes are new.

and Fuzz remix of Reflekt - Need to Feel Loved is much better then thrillseekers,i got hundreads of tracks wich are similar style as Thrillseekers remix.

IMHO thrillseekers suck, why? because Electronic music changes all the time,Chicane are classics so Thrillseekers are,but they never were a floor killers, they are like Benny Bennasi - well known, overplayed and no new material.

why bother posting then? got a point? make it.

Let's Go.

Alright then, fair enough.

To say that producers such as the Thrillseekers and Above & Beyond 'don't produce anything new' is just plain wrong.

From a production standpoint, pretty much the only thing that's stayed *relatively* the same amongst A&B and Thrillseekers is the synths and sounds used, and that's not even really the case w/ A&B anymore.

I think of all the labels out there, Anjunabeats is probably one of the more forward thinking and more diverse. With Hard On Recordings and the newly founded Anjunadeep, it's proof positive that Jono & the Boys are dedicated to expanding their scope. Not confining it.

And before someone rushes to tell me that I just described the Label, not A&B..

Above & Beyond Presents Tranquility Base - Razorfish
Above & Beyond Presents Tranquility Base - Surrender
Above & Beyond - No One On Earth
Ferry Corsten - Holding On (Above & Beyond Mix)

Yeah. These all sound the same?

..I thought not.

did not expect a heated argument to come of this thread lol...i just want those boys in TO...

as my avator says....i really really really want to hear

anjunabeats - volume 1 (above & beyond remix)

dropped by them...highlight of my clubbing days right there.

and throw in the old tunes too like:

aurora - ordinary world (above & beyond remix)
oceanlab - clear blue water (above & beyond remix)
prepetuous dreamer - sound of goodbye (above & beyond remix)

these were all the gems that made me know i like trance!!! above & beyond has been my favorite group right since the beginning, and they are very forward thinking with their radio show and diversity, the producers they sign, their online shop...etc.etc

when i first started listening to them, i remember i felt so bad for them how their music was so amazing and they were getting very little recognition...now they are trance icons!!!

Posted by MarkT on Feb-20-2005 03:49:

^^^

exactly...gotta respect the people who helped bring the trance scene to where it is today. I don't like the "what have you done for me lately" position that is being implied by Transmotion (kidding dude, it's all good )

old, new, whatever...good trance is good trance and everyone mentioned in this thread is *massive* and I'd love to hear any of them live on a decent sound system!!!

Posted by SniFFleS on Feb-20-2005 21:54:

Nu NRG, Above and Beyond, Armin Van Buuren, Deep Dish, Lab 4, Johan Gielen, Gabriel and Dresdon, Lady Dana

I wanna see that event!!
