GKGG question

Ok, so i turned 18 not long ago and passed my driving test. I'm thinking about going to GKGG in the summer as my 1st trance event.
Whst is the atmosphere like?
Do all the ukta's meet up?

Posted by Rick D on Feb-19-2005 11:12:

we did meet up last year, and the atmosphere was pretty good. I didn't see any trouble although others said they did, and there were a couple of reports of knives and theives and stuff.

Posted by Ian on Feb-19-2005 11:20:

this year its a 2 day thing, and I know a lot of the guys are sceptical about it, cos it'll be full of scum, plus its every other year that it pisses it down, and last year was dry

Posted by Jackson on Feb-19-2005 13:47:

what do u mean scum? Like Chavs or what?

Posted by Jake Conlon on Feb-19-2005 14:06:

Pikeys, Chavs, Tax Dodger, Benefit Fraudsters.

The ones that wear the Council Estate Chic ala Burberry.

I Blame it on the D'n'B Tent.

whats that got to do with anything? tidy has never had major problems hosting hardcore arenas.
Its a stupid idiotic thing to say to blame a bad crowd on a certain type of music u lot probably dont like it when people label us as pillheads or druggies so dont label them with anything.
Its just cose its a large event and they always attract scallys they dont even go cose they like the music they just go to sell drugs simple as.
I spoke to some scallys at tidy weekender and they told me that they dont even like the music but still paid over 100 to get in only one reason why they were there.

Don't go in your car unless you get there early to beat the cues so you can park nearer the front where thieves will be easier to spot by the so called security so you have more chance of not getting broken into. And this year it would be wise if they dont do major road works on some of the main roads into Stratford knowing that there will be plenty of traffic.

Posted by Jake Conlon on Feb-19-2005 18:14:

it was only a joke.

i enjoy abit of John B, Andy C, Eksman once in a while.
Pendulum rule.
drum and bass also sounds extremly good when im drunk, as my limbs fly everywhere.

I will prolly be going, not missed one yet but i wont be doing the 2 dayer.

Apparently the first night (friday) is going to be all urban style, ich, so it will be like all the other GKGG's for me, turn up around 4pm saturday afternoon.

One thing thou, the security should be way better for this one as they are expecting ppl to be camping out if they are doing the 2 day event althou i still would not be keen on that myself, waking up with some chav trying to nick my tent lol so defo the normal GKGG for me.

The atmosphere at these events is shit....

there's more pikeys every year...

the sound systems at this event are shit.....

most of the tents at this event are shit........

the last 2 gkggs have been fucking shit.......

this yea it's going to be a 2 day event, starting on the friday....which will be shitter still.

well trance is more commercial so it is gonna appeal to the masses and attract more scallys just wanting to get to the front of the main stage trying to get tiesto autograph

Posted by Cru54d3r on Feb-19-2005 23:24:

i think its wrong to pin the blame on any particular tent tbh .. im sure if there was a way to work it out certain tents may well have a larger following of trouble makers then others but at the end of the day removing a particular tent, like the dnb tent, wouldnt help much because imo a lot of the trouble makers go because its a festival rather then to listen to a specific dj or be in a particular tent ..

If the above wasnt true then they would surely be in their tent of choice enjoying the music and not walking around harrassing/beating people up ..

Bit radical perhaps .. but i reckon "no sportswear" on the tickets and refusal of entry would sort out a lot of the trouble

Posted by TranceMuzik02 on Feb-20-2005 10:42:

I'm sure a lot of them get in free, they just work through with their 'hard' look act, thats why they need proper security or police at the gates. And the rest jump over the fences, hence some breaking their legs last year.

Posted by Coup on Feb-20-2005 11:00:

i shall not be going.

if you havent been trance clubbing before, id recommend going to a trance night at gods or crasher something instead of throwing urself right into the deep end at one of the biggest trance nights in the world.

Put it this way, at Air in brum on a GK night you have a quick "once over" check

At a DnB event (went last week as it happened) you have to walk thru metal detectors, put all your belongings in plastic boxes and they are allot more rougher with you when searching.

so? the only reason drug searches r just the once over is cose everyones knows damn well where the drugs r but they r not allowed to touch u there so whats the point in searching? if they could touch u where they wanted then the searches would be alot more extensive like at this Dnb event u described.
Did anyone get stabbed or hurt at this DnB event if they didnt then whats ur point about it attracting a worse crowd? as long as no one got hurt thats all that matters.
I heard that several people got stabbed at GG last year

Global Gathering, regardless of some of the morons you see there, is still an excellent experience. I wasn't bothered by anyone last year, and I was on my own. (Due to communication problems with friend)

I think I'm off to Dance Valley instead this year though.

One thing that can be said against GG is the lack of interaction, with somewhere like Air mentioned above, (fine night last night) you can be stood just a couple of metres from the DJ. Get a good DJ who pleases and joins in with the crowd (ie. not PVD) and its pretty cool.
At GG depending on the tent, you can be quite a huge distance from the speck in a box high up which is your DJ.. which in my opinion is a bit crappy.

And yeah, the sound is invariably pretty crappy at festivals.

EDIT: oh and the searches arent that much of the big deal everyone makes em out to be, they work (to some degree), and if you've got nothing to hide then no problems.

GKGG was a great festival.. Now there were some troubles with the sound but thats the standard. About the people at GKGG it was a great crowd. People were really friendly and everything. One exception I avoided the DNB tent for the reason i didnt want ne crap from ne one. At 4am i saw one fight breakout over that way and that sealed it even though Diesel Boy was on.
Creamfields on the otherhand if Serious CRAP in comparison. ".5 hour wait without any info why, etc. For Dance Valley and Mysteryland in the netherlands that I went to also were 50,000 strong well organized and great atmosphere (GKGG, Creamfields 40,000). Would consider those festivals before. The dutch fetivals are day festivals also so its a little different but well worth it!!!!!!

Change is always good!!!!

Bollocks, absolute bollocks. There was absolutely no bad attitude whatsoever in the trance arena, both years I went, and even less in the hard house one (not that I spent much time in there). Went in the DnB tent for 5 mins just to see what it was like and it absolutely reeked of badboy attitude, you'd always have someone looking at you like they wanted to stab you. Some friends of mine who ventured in the breaks tent also said the same.

Yeah, cos you just had LOADS of people climbing up past this stage to get an autograph:

(the dj is roughly behind that hanging speaker)

...anyway, I went to the 2003 one and it was my first ever proper clubbing event, it was great, save the weather. The 2004 one wasn't as good setup-wise but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Depends largely on the lineup and what you enjoy, as well as who you go with obviously.

Posted by George Kendall on Feb-26-2005 20:35:

the dnb arena was one of the most friendly arenas I went into....too quick to judge.

most of the ket-spacked out pikey ******s were raving their tits off in the gk and hard house arenas to the bollocks that was the sound system in said arena.

50 to hear some loud distortion surrounded by a set of nobs who've taken too many drugs to properly enjoy it?

fuck that shit, I'll stick to good club nights, cheers.

I felt like I was gonna get mugged near the DnB arena, fuck that shit, it has to go

not that it matters, it's all about Dance Valley this year
