More soldier abuse in Iraq

This situation has got to stop. They're even abusing eachother. I wonder if this order came from higher up?

Some legal action should be taken in that case.

imma 56k connection so no video for me, but if its that video of the marine recruit being pushed for not wanting to go into the water and then drowning, that drill sargaent has been suspended, pending further investigation.

I was taking a taxi one day into town and I got chatting with the driver who went to the Vietnam war.

He said that the American soldiers when they would go into a town would kill every sign of life their was. The men, the women, the children, the pets, the animals, everything. They'd just kill it.

There appears to be a culture engrained into the US armed forces of being the ultimate power and not being answerable to anyone, and its nearly impossible to change such a culture.

I guess that many parts of Europe learnt valuable lessons from World War Two which the United States did not, especially in the area of human rights. But things can change and the wheel turns and the US will pay for their behaviour.

Its easy to understand why parts of the world hate America so much when they only exposure they get to the United States is their armed forces. If many people in these countries got to hang out with your general Americans they probably wouldn't feel the need to crash planes into buildings...

stellar comment there buck. there are also reasons the Americans don't like not only the French, but also europeans in general... comments like yours don't help anything.

oh please, stop with the BS. the shyt u hear in the news are isolated incidences blown out of proportion. until u talk to a real soldier from irak or afghanistan, your only going to be basing your assumptions on edited material.

with the vietnam war, the viet cong also massecred people and treated our POW's brutally. its war, and things happen.

A situation where a Marine drill was abusing a trainee certainly was not acting on orders from higher up. The drills will be relieved of duty, maybe punished a little, and probably be sent to Iraq. We're having some problem with making the combat vets drill instructors in the Army as well. They're pretty rough characters and we created them. Marines are missing recruiting goals as is the Army and we can ill afford to send a message out to the potential enlistees that they will be harrassed and abused throughout training. No way any order came from higher up to abuse the few volunteers trickling in to man the force. Biggest concern is meeting end strengths at the moment.

From a psychological point of view in the animal world its rare for animals to kill their own kind, well, mammals at least.

So its take a huge amount of mental conditioning (read brainwashing) for humans to feel comfortable doing it, whether for country or for moral reasons.

These type of problems are to be expected in armed forces...

Its rare with humans too.

Look at it as a death by human vs. death by other causes perspective (just as you do with other mammals) and you'll see what I mean. Disease is still our biggest killer. And we starve to death more than we kill each other.
