NBA Slam Dunk contest 2005? WTF?!

Exactly... WTF was all that about?!

Not only did the cut the # of contestants to 4 (from 6 they had previously), but the choice of contestants? Goddamn, who came up with the list...?!

The white boy, Andersen? Sure, he's got hops, but he's a goddamn 6' 9" or something! And no, he had no creativity whatsoever, totally not suitable for the dunk contest... (i won't even bother mentioning the butter-finger hands... ok, i mentioned it).

Amare? Yea, I like that kid and I think he's a sick player (especially when he posterizes others in the game), but I don't see him doing something spectacular, especially with his heights and no hang time whatsoever!

The Smiths... well, at least they managed to get these 2 names right. Too bad one of them got knocked out in the first round. And yea, Josh Smith totally deserved the title - not only did he not miss a single dunk (no retries whatsoever), but they were all well thought out, sick, some original, some throw backs to the old school (oh man, that Dominique jersey was a good surprise), etc. This kid is the shiznit...

Special mention goes to Charles Barkley and his comments... he's a champ and he should get some trophey for that as well!

And just as a note, here are some dunks from the NCAA dunk contests, and you be the judge on who is more creative, original, entertaining, etc:

omg the commentary was classic...

"practicing on stage"
"7th try"
"even if he jumps throug the roof he won't get a 10"
"next year nash will be wearing skates"

lol that was funny....poor white kid boy did he suck

smiths first dunk should have won it if only he didn;t need 4 tries..BEHIND THE BACK!!!!!!

and yeah i have seen better high school dunks than some of those....and just when will someone actually jump from behind the free throw line....everyone is always a half foot over...NO ONE has ever gone from behind the line!!!!

Posted by Crazy Serb on Feb-20-2005 05:59:

who remembers those NCAA dunks a few years ago when they went all out and they had one guy jump over a sofa with 2 of his buddies sitting in it, dunk it and sit down with them, and the other do a 360 degree spin dunk over a guy sitting in a chair (a-la-Kenyon Martin dunk, just with the added 360 degree spin)... oh god, that was mind-blowing!

And Barkley's comment on "Total Motion" slow-mo-effect or whatever that was --> "That... that is a Total waste of money! That's what it is!"

oh wow...totally forgot about the slam dunk contest

I think i'm going to cry

A couple of years back, in the euro version of the slam dunk competition, a serbian fella by the name of Marko Milic won the title (and the car) by jumping over a Mercedez Benz, from the freethrow line, off 2 feet. He was literally horizontal in the air. I so want to see that footage again.

i didn't even watch the game, due to the usual lack of competitiveness associated with an all-star game and players looking like they're just warming up for some charity game or something.

any vids of those?

Why should there be competitiveness? Just like the Pro Bowl in the NFL, it's all about having fun. The event is a reward for the stars, to come and gave a good time.

The dunks were amazing. Especially Carters which got Highlight of the Night. The hangtime on that was crazy: I love how there was that pause just before he slammed the ball down.
