My tracks!

Due to popular (haha) demand, I've decided to post these. I'm posting here instead of the global forum because I want to share with friends and acquaintances, not total strangers. Thanks to DJ Eso for the host (and motivational skills ).

Any comments/questions are welcome. I've only been at this seriously for about a month, so don't expect to hear tracks of the year here, but don't be shy of any constructive criticism either. They're levelled to -1 dB, so you might have to turn the volume up a bit.

So, without further ado, here they are (right-click, save as):

Aigis - Spicicle (Progressive/Electro Breaks)

Aigis - Mindpluck (Uplifting Trance)

Aigis - Wind Dance (Progressive/Tribal House)

Enjoy (well, hopefully)!

may i refer to you in all context as Aigis as well ?

Posted by djbruuen on Feb-21-2005 04:53:

Thumbs up

cool ...liked wind dance...not huge for the other tunes though...

also...for winddance, i'd label that as (downtempo) not prog house.

Aaron will do just fine.

interesting....will give them a listen and give you some feedback

Aigis - Spicicle, i like some of the basslines, and the way the track is structured, however, too many glitchy sounds, feels like there is too much going on..more is not necessarily better, it can take away from the song.

Aigis - Mindpluck, once again, i like the way its structured, the sounds are a little cheesy to me, maybe its just the program you are using, are you using fruityloops? Thats the only complaint about this song, the sounds resemble euro trance. The strings are definetly a nice touch, and give the song a unique feel.

Aigis - Wind Dance, the best out of the bunch, probably because its a much simpler track, not over layered, all the sounds go along nicely, one complaint tho, the track is constantly changing, progressing, and it doesnt seem to go anywhere. For some reason the thought of labeling this IDM comes to mind.

hmm, not bad, not bad at all... i liked that wind dance, even tho it had nothing to do with progressive or tribal for that matter.

Hey Aaron!

Got some good potential there. Keep it comming

Obviously the genres are arbitrary but even if I've totally mislabelled them I don't think it's really constructive to debate that. IMO, if it's 120 bpm and has tribal drums including a kick in the standard tribal pattern (i.e. x--xx-x-x---x---), then it might as well be called tribal, it's just not the "DDTT" tribal. And I stuck progressive in there because the melodic elements are closer to a progressive track than a tribal one. I don't think either Spicicle or Wind Dance really fit directly into any standard EDM genre but I had to come up with something so people had a clue what they were downloading.

Tb. - which sounds in particular would you say resemble euro trance? It was intended to be a little cheesy but not euroey. But most of them are VSTs, so they're easily tweaked or changed.

Thanks for the feedback guys... keep 'em coming.

I like the tribal one .. its very intresting and and congested (in a good way)

will give feedback on the others when ive listend keep it up though! you obviously have some creative ideas

I guess the sound that comes in around 1:18, but now that i think about it, its not so euroy, sounds more like something you'd hear in a video game from the early 90s

mindpluck some very intresting ideas going on .. i would pronouce the bassline and percussion a bit more.. they seem to be drowned out by the melodies

Spicicle intresting track here again.. a bit random though.. i love the elements though

keep up the good work.. would like to hear some more stuff from you

Ouch! Guess I can kinda see what you mean there - is it the instrument itself or maybe just the slides? I was aiming to avoid the annoying airy trance synths but maybe I overshot a bit.

umm u aint THAT special Mr. Nutjob....theres a TOTA productions thread for a reason

i cant decide whether i like ur breaks track or not....dunno why....

oh and u might wanna add more of a click to the kick

Posted by Pett on Feb-22-2005 01:21:

not bad , mindplunk had me bobbing my head slightly at the end
gotta remove teh cheeseyness thou and fuck with the bass more or something,,,,, a little flat if that makes any sense

Posted by DJ_Elyot on Feb-22-2005 01:41:

Actually, the TA production thread hasn't been stickied... maybe if it got stickied then we'd post our tracks in there. Anyways, it's nice to have a seperate thread to discuss each person's tracks in... u get more feedback that way.

Anyways, I'm DLing the tracks now. I'm interested in hearing these... are these the ones you said were made in Trackers?

No no, I haven't used trackers in a long while, these are made in FLS. I'm really impressed with the ones you make, by the way, it's pretty cool to be able to do that in ModPlug.

As to you LKD, the only people that actually read the producers thread are producers, and even they don't read it too often. I posted this for a bunch of regular people that had asked to hear them. In no way should that be interpreted as an insinuation that I'm better or deserve more attention. I just knew I wouldn't get any good feedback if I posted in the other thread.

In the production forum people create separate threads for every single track - what's the big deal if I post one single thread here with ALL of mine? It's not spam or self-promotion since I'm not getting paid and don't ever intend to, and people post all kinds of far more pointless shit on the forum.

Hmm, that's a few comments about the bassline... I agree that it's flat. I think perhaps what I ought to do is just add another bassline!

I think I'll revise that track - I like the progression but it obviously needs some work.

Good start, mate. Definate potential for some great music. I would keep it a little simpler, theres a lot going on, sometimes too much.
Good start nonetheless!
Keep it up.

its called letting creativity flow....adn the problem is when u have to restrict it in under 10 minutes jsut so people are willing to listen to the whole thing..tahts why it sounds like too much is goin on...

Posted by DJ_Elyot on Feb-22-2005 03:42:

I DLed Wind Dance... I do like it very much. It's got an interesting style; I'm not really sure whether something like this could get signed, but it's definitely good for a listen. Very dark, chunky tribal. I really enjoy your use of polyphony. Lots going on is GOOD!

Just a personal opinion mate, feedback is the key, regardless of the content. All i know is people will share my opinion and people won't, but its good to know either way.

i dont remember saying "stfu", just letting u know whats the reason for what u noticed cos ive been given such feedback too and thats usually the reason why

Posted by ninjahola on Feb-22-2005 03:58:

Cool mate, respect.

Posted by djdustx on Feb-22-2005 04:24:

AS far as ur breaks track goes...it gives me the same wtf feeling from this like LKD productions...maybe u 2 should collab...no offence, but of course i dont listen to breask...so what do i know

If u done this in FL5...have u heard of refx/linplug/NI? if so i would suggest checking those developers out...along with catching a crystal n superwave p8 download.

To rap it up...keep at it...and figure urself out more musically...cuz this stuff hurts my ears

Seb.
