you should read some threads... often it is enough to see the pictures

I'm afraid a few pictures or some posts on an online forum will hardly give you a sufficient image of a whole country not to mention its inhabitants' mentality. I think the best solution would be coming here for a few weeks to experience German live directly and uncensored Moving to another country is a huge decision, especially when it means leaving home some tenthousands of kilometeres behind you as in your case. That's why I wouldn't hurry but do anything in order to be absolutely sure about your final decision, whatever it will be. Good Luck!

Since this thread is relevant to my own question...I'll just add on.

My company has offered me a position in Neuss. Actually I've been given my choice of 3 cities: Neuss, Zurich, or Amsterdam. Right now I'm leaning towards Neuss solely for career growth reasons; although, all cities have great potential.

Can anyone provide any insight on this city...positive AND negative? I MUST have access to a strong music scene...House and Trance. I found Tribehouse, which is encouraging. Also, for social purposes, I'm a 27 y.o. single gal, so I would like a city that is geared towards a young, hip crowd. And it is very important that whatever city I live in has good, inexpensive transportation options for exploring Europe.

Thoughts?? Thank you!

(And no, I don't know German; although, I'll begin lessons soon.)

the people?

well, that depends... you can find any kind of people in germany. the people here at the german subforum are actually all very very nice, actually they are one of the nicest people i've ever met.
but you will also find enough assholes here in germany, so i suppose it's not very different from australia

girls?

many girls are very nice and cute but, f.e., here in munich you will find many hip-hop-chicks who look all the same and have more make-up than face. girls listening to trance are rare (at least i have the impression), but those that do are so much the better ;-)

does it cost alot to live?

that depends on where you want to live... i can't actually tell you how high living-costs are in berlin, but munich f.e. is along with frankfurt /main the most expensive city in germany.

and is it easy to meet people?

well, i don't know how shy you are ;-) but usually it's not that complicated... many people here are very open-minded and it's rather simple to get into a conversation with someone you've just met for the first time in your life. not being able to speak german might complicate this a bit tho, since not everyone over here speaks (good) english or english at all

hope i could help

@tiffgrooves: sorry, i've never been to Neuss, so i can't help you...

Neuss is in the Ruhrgebiet, a huge metropolitan area with many bigger cities like Duesseldorf, Cologne, Dortmund, etc.
You can get to all these cities easily by train. If you want to explore Europe from there, well there are Airports in Cologne, Dortmund, Dsseldorf. Some of them offer really cheap flights too.
Also there are many clubs, you won't find too much trance though. It's more Techno, Minimal, Electro, House etc.
I haven't been to Neuss though, so you might want to wait for other replies.
