Need 1st hand advice on CD decks...
Im in a big debate on which one to go with. I indefinately want them with spinning platters. These are the 3 I was debating on:
Technics SLDZ1200
Denon DN-S5000/3000
Numark CDX
I plan to spin trance, breakbeat and hiphop/scratching. Price wise, they are about the same. Im kinda leaning more towards the Numark, as it scratches much cleaner than the other 2.
Planned to pick up a set of one of the above and a Denon DNX300 mixer. The DNX appealed to me the best, or possibly the Behringer DJX-700.

Don't waste your time or money on the Technics deck.
Now both the Denon and Numark were made with the scratchers in mind. The Denons more so than the Numark. I would recommend the Denons over the Numark for the fact that the pitch increments are alot more precise than that of the Numark. So if you are playing more trance where beatmatching is needed, then the denon would work better... However if you do play to be spinning more breaks, hiphop scratch type music, then the Numark would be the better bet. Your mixes won't be long so you won't need the precision increments, it will feel like real vinyl, and the effects unit on it is pretty crazy.
Just gotta decide what you will be spinning more. Trance or Hiphop...
I got the denon 1000 and the 3000 and love them both. I Highly recommend the denon.
I recommend you go try the Numark and Denons out, also the Technics but I really would forget about them, anyway just test them out and see what you like, for overal use I would go for the Denon, its pitch accuracy is .02% whereas the Numark is .1% so will not stay matched for as long, as for mixers, out of the DJX and the X300, definately go for the X300, its a good mixer and will last, the DJX will probably die after not to long, and the effects are useless from the start, so don't be thinking about gettin it for effects, but really, just go out and try them all.
Why is everyone so anti technics cd decks? Just curious.

Yea the Techs are a real letdown IMO, it is said that they are good to mix on though, and I have heard there sound is supposed to shine when played in a big club, but the feel and functions just ain't there, they really don't feel like a Techs turntable, or any turntable for that matter, the pitch control is very loose unlike the Tech1200, the motor feels weaker, unlike the Tech1200, the platter is smaller than a Tech1200, and the feel of that flimsy film that sits (I mean sits as in it just sits there, can easly just ping off, isn't held on by anything) there DOES NOT feel like any record I've ever felt, I'm sure they could last awhile, but it doesn't matter as IMO they didn't get alot of the basics right, turns out there are selling like hotcakes, but this will most probably be due to the name.
Sorry if I offend any TechSLZ owners, this is all just my opinion, if you got one and you like it then ::thumpsup::.

Ive played with all 3 already. Here is my opinions on them:
Numark: Felt the best overall. Damn good control on the platter but only thing that griped me was the pitch slider was on the top right, instead of the lower right. Pricetag: $799.
Denon: Was confusing to use at first. The Hot Track feature is freakin awesome. When I was first playing with it, every time I went to the next track, it stopped playing altogether. I had to press Play everytime. Pricetag: $899
Technics: My friend has one and got an indepth with it. The features were easy to use (vinyl simulator and sound fx dynamics). The platter was a little hard to control as its overall usable area was the smallest out of the other 2. Best screen placement imo. Pricetag: On sale, $799.
Im thinking heavily on the Numark's and the Denon mixer. Although I havent any experience with the Numark's, they definately scoring high so far. I still havent forgot about the Technics or the Denon either. My original plan was to go with a full Denon setup.
i own 1210s, technics sldz 1200 cd turnatable and cdj1000.
the technics only downfall is that its too sensitve to nudge forward in the traditional way, which i think wiill be fixed in the mk2's. Everything else is spot on regarding how it feels and plays like a 1210. Ive played clubs for the last 10 years and only recently have seen technics and pioneer 800/1000s on installs.
take that into consideration when u buy
i personally wouldnt touch ANYTHING numark etc with a bargepole, same goes for all the other ones without any field pedigree

I definately know what the pros use... have a few friends that spin professionally. Only 2 I know of use CDs at all, and swear by the CDJ1000s.
I want the best for the tables. My girl and I have decided not to skimp on those because I will be buying a pair.
Some Ive noticed dont really like the Techs, but others love it. Im on the fence between all three. I know for absolute sure the Denon and Technics are much higher quality than the Numark (obvious just by looking at them). The Technics is a little better layed out, while the Numark is the easiest to spin on. Still dont know why I have the Denon still in the group, as I havent found any pluses over the others.

I had this dilemma, and ended up buying the Pioneer CDJ800's... Numarks are awesome for hip hop, specially cuz of the real record that it has, Denon's, you can use a 45 to simulate real vinyl feel.. Technics, when they first came out they had issues, but I think Technics fixed those issue, such as turning off when turning off the effects while the CD is playing. Yeah, that's a big one! lol... Plus the drag sucked on the technics... It has too much drag. I choose Pioneer simply because most clubs I have played at have CDJ's or Denon Dual Decks. But, in less then 4 months, I already had my lens on both CDJs fixed! That can't be good! Other then that CDJ's kick ass!
Why do you want spinning platters?
Like i have said numerous times before, I own (1) CDJ1000 & (1) DN-S5000. I love the 1000 better mainly because it is more accurate at a higher pitch range. Aslo, the spinning platter on the Denon is more of a gimmick as it is a belt-driven platter.
In reguards to switching the track, you can turn the track selection knob off while the cd is playing.

I want spinning platters for a more vinyl feel. As stated before, Ive spun on Tech 1200s for a little bit. Im moving to CD because of my tremendous collection of CDs/MP3s.
I havent had the chance to play with the CDJ yet. Guitar Center didnt have any on display. How is the CDJ on scratching? I wanted a deck that can do a little bit of everything. Dont plan to just spin trance..
Need to make my decision before the 15th of March.
mate, i find jog wheels easier to mix on that spinning platters. have you tried out the pioneers? i was skeptical of jog wheels after learning on vinyl decks but after i mixed a friend's newly bought cdj 500 mkIIs i actually prefer the jog wheel. the cdj's feel really good too. at this ambient psy thingy in southampton (eufloria i think), they had a pair of cdj 100s set up and the techs. nobody used the techs!
if you want the vinyl feel go buy vinyl decks i say. you arent gonna get more vinyl feeling than the real thing. you wanna spin cds get one of the pioneers. they just feel good. i found mixing on cdj 500s to be much more fun than i thought it would be. i recommend you try all of this stuff out before you buy it though - dont take all of our opinions as fact. ultimately you have to like the feel of the deck and how it responds when you use it.
I recommend to u use an Vestax mixer if you are supposed to scratch they have an smooth crossfader...(which always comes in my way

Planning on going to another Guitar Center that will have the CDJ on display. Ill definately play with each more in depth before I make my final decision.
The only Vestax mixer they had there, at the time, was the gold limited, 2ch battle mixer. That thing is badass... but is also about $1k. I dont plan to scratch all that often, just here and there.
Ive practically sold away all my old eq. Vinyl just wasnt cutting it for me... music selection wise. Possibly in the future I will pick up a set of Tech Grandmasters.
My co-worker wants technics and agrues they are the best.
I remember someone posted a video proving they suck (Was it James Zabiella trying?).

he swears by them, and he could/mix/scratch/produce zabiela under the fuckin table!
id say Dave Clarkes opinion stands for more than zabiela's, plus the fact theres no way a major company like Technic would put there name to a product if it simply didnt perform! there the most credible name in the industry and wouldnt produce or promote a product that didnt work, sure they might have a few things that could be improved ... but what new product doesnt!!!!
ps. adx if you still actually post on here, what did you go for?
i think u should lean towards pioneer if u got enough money for the techs....pioneer cdj 800 would b a good choice...the 1000 i heard is an overkill...but still worth it
if i had the cash i would definately go for the pioneers
