Best Nam war film?

Apocalypse Now is on tv at the moment (Sky movies for those in the uk)
Not seen all of it before, just wondering what do you think is the best Vietnam war film?
I'd probably say "We were soldiers" with mel gibson. Great film.

my step dad who is a vet says Platoon is the most realistic....well he probably meant it was similar to his experience.

also full metla jacket is just classic.

Full metal jacket is quite good...not my fave though...
Tigerland is a good film...eventhough its just training for the nam war its still good.

Plot Summary for
We Were Soldiers (2002)
In a place soon to be known as The Valley of Death, in a small clearing called landing zone X-Ray, Lt. Colonel Hal Moore (Mel Gibson) and 400 young fathers, husbands, brothers, and sons, all troopers from an elite American combat division, were surrounded by 2,000 North Vietnamese soldiers. The ensuing battle was one of the most savage in U.S. history. We Were Soldiers Once...And Young is a tribute to the nobility of those men under fire, their common acts of uncommon valor, and their loyalty to and love for one another.

It`s a fkn disgrace that Mel Gibson did that movie considering his father moved him and his brother from Hawaii to Australia so that they wouldn`t get called up to fight.

Doesnt mean he can respect those who fought bravely...is abit controversial though.

I can't be arsed to dig up the whole background info load on this movie, but We Were Soldiers is based on authentic experiences by vietnam vets, among other things a book written by Hal Moore and Joe Galloway, who both participated at the battle of Ia Drang. Jury's still out on how true Gibson is to the book and the rest of his material, but saying that the movie is disgraceful just cos Gibson didn't fight in the war himself is both unfair and fallacious.

Also, Apoc Now isn't really a nam war movie, as Nam just provides the setting. The points made in the movie are not about war per se. It's a brilliant movie nonetheless with hair-raising imagery, but for a movie truly about Nam I'd suggest Platoon or FMJ. IMO, Apoc Now is more about what man is really capable of when pushed far enough.

of all the ones mentioned, i enjoyed tigerland the most

To my knowledge, and talking to Vietnam Vets. "Apocalypse Now" best describes the Horrer that the soldiers seen in the jungle that actually took place. To this day a few of the vets still sleep with a gun or a knife at there side.

full metal jacket is definitely a classic. my favorite nam movie is the one based off of "heart of darkness." I think it was apocalypse now.

I had a junior high school teacher who was in Vietnam. At the time he had said that the most realistic Nam movie sequences he had ever seen came from Forest Gump.

My fav is also Apocalypse Now.
