Review: Tiesto @ Glow 2/22/05
reposted from groovanauts.com board:
Awesome night! Dan-Samp-son!!!!!! Hell yeah! That was the best chant of the night! Dan's set was off the hook! Way better than Tiesto's IMO. Great crowd last night, only true Tiesto fans. Even though it did end up getting packed, I didn't mind. Was definitely disappointed in Tiesto's set overall. Sure, he dropped a few good tracks, most I didn't recognize, but it just didn't feel like he was really into it. You guys are right, Tiesto has changed a lot. It's just not at all like it was back in May '03, or November '03. I remember him jumping up and down a lot more and having a lot more crowd interaction back then. Tiesto always used to sign stuff for people. Nowadays, the last 2 times
I've seen the man, he doesn't do any of those things anymore.
The sound system was definitely really muffled last night as well. It's high time they tweaked it again. Back when FUR first opened, it sounded great. There's a huge difference now. Too bass heavy, and distorted. It used to sound so clean, and crisp.
So good to see all the glow family out again last night! Since I haven't been down since X-mas, I was feeling like its been forever since I've seen everyone. Shoutouts to: Janette, Amy, Brian, Charlie, Russ, Dave, Kenny, Barry, Julian, Mario, Cory, Robin, Josy, Johnathan, Amanda, Carolina, Kristen
and anyone else I forgot to mention, I'm sorry I'm still tired and hungover!!!!
Thanks so much Gerald for letting us in! Sorry I didn't see u the rest of the night. I ended up drinking a lot too much. Pete, great job closing the night out as usual. And Dan, You da man!!! Greece 2000!!!!! Best song of the night, hands down!
All things aside, even though Tiesto wasn't on his A game last night, I still had a blast. Dan tore it up, and Pete rocked as usual. So glad I got to come out and see everyone again. I know I'll talk to you all very soon, and I'll surely see everyone again @ Markus.
gosh darn it! I wanted to be the first... ROFL.. but my internet was on the fritz this morning...
I had a blast.. Definitely on my TOP 5 @ glow list, but I think that was because of my friends more than because it was tiesto.. he just complimented it!! I came in a little late.., but I got there and had no problems getting in and not sitting in line.
I am soooooo glad I went.
Happy 2 years of currupting me brian ROFL! .. I actually teared up after you peeps left.. I'm starting to see how much I'm going to miss everyone when I move in a couple weeks!
I thought the crowd size was great considering it was Tiesto!.. I got to dance and chill with everyone without feeling like I was going to be squished to death...
Amy, Sky ~*muah*~.. thanx fellow rockstars.. Charlie, its so wonderful to chill with you again, Sammy, Bedrock, Empath, K (woohoo.. i can't believe you got to come out!.. that was soooo wonderful.. MUAH* MUAH*), Mario, Ali, Nicole.. i know i'm missing a bunch of peeps, but I'm kinda tired....
anyways, moving on, i thought the speakers sounded like crap.. my ears are killing... especially in the VIP.. but oh well... at least we all had a great night...
MUCH LUV PEEPS!
OMG.. yeah so in my shoutouts I forgot.. omg of all people, vtec - dude.. shoutouts to the addict with the mostest and my favorite white boy to dance with! *muah*
John & Amanda, cryo..please forgive me..

im lazy to retype so here is mine from glowboards so here:
it was pretty bangin set and like said before he played just about 3hrs...
his set was great but what made it even better was everyone that came out, you all know who you are, cheers to everyone
a few tracks he played
way out west - MINDCIRCUS (G&D MIX) << wtFFFF that was sooo sick!!11!
randy katana - one solid wave < love this track, so bumpin
nalin & kane - open your eyes < another classic, soooo fcking sick.
and then
remy & klinkenberg - till ya drop < sick stuff too
that's all i can think of now...hearing mindcircus and open your eyes was great, wish he played more classics... or a little longer
edit: he also played perasma - swing 2 harmony

i wanted to go to this but i had sooo much work and had to meet a deadline for nursing school applications (march 1) so i'm glad i chose to be a good girl and get my work done.
glad ya'll had fun!!
Like somebody else I am copying my own too long of a post from the GLOW/Groovnauts board:
So here are my impressions of the night. My perspective may be a little different than some since I'm a bit older (have been hitting the clubs since '94) and I travel out of town at least once a month to different cities to visit friends and hit the clubs and parties. I flew in with my girl from New Orleans just for the night. In fact we are both back at work. Was it worth it ? Simple answer is a resounding yes. It was my first time at GLow/Fur. For some reason going there had always eluded us even though we had been anxious to go. Overall I was very impressed. I finally got to see what those blueprints on the old Fur website actually looked like in real life. Defintely a nice design. I made sure to walk aoriund an explore. For some reason I am fascinated by clubs, lounges - large and small. I fly to LA about 8 times a year, Vegas about three, Miami about 4, NYC about once/twice (not a big fan of NYC), SF a few times/year, and I expect to be going to DC a few times as well. I've hit all the major clubs/parties: Avalon in LA (was the palace) and Boston and NYC. After hour power in LA used to be a blast. Pimp n Ho party in Vegas is a waste, but there is a lot of booby action. I saw Armin at his first night at ICE in Vegas (before they changes the booth location. It's a beautiful club, but It's not optimal set up for a great clubbing experience. Plus you also have to deal with the 'Vegas' crowd. We left DC with a very good impression of the crowd overall. Irecognized some people fromt he boards, but I was little 'shy' last night and sometimes it's nice to be a little incognito. I can't seem to go to LA cluns withought it being like a high school reunion and sometimes I just want to enjoy the music and focus on the dj. Of course not everybody is going to necessarily be your best friend, but most people seemed decent (nice vibe) at Glow They were very energetic and very into it, especially conidering it was a Tues. night and that they are used to seeing major acts. In places where they are not used to getting major acts, either of two things will happen: they will be so into it since they are starved or they just won't know how to act and get into it. You guys rocked and we were happy to see that since I had a good impression from just lurking on the GLOW boards. Speaking of the boards, this has to be one of the best ones. Usually, the staff/moderators are not so up on them like you see here. Kudos to that. So I won't waste my time on Twilo, because that's long over. But what about Space ? Sure it's a loud system, but we're convinced it's an over rated/hyped club. Sure I've had goot times there, but it's not all that and then you have some major jerks to deal with. You feel ripped off sometimes. Please don't think I'm jaded. I'm just trying to give props to the glow promotion. Don't take it for granted. Spundae at LA at Circus (coming back soon) is nice as well as Heaven at Arena. We were in the middle of the dance floor for all of Tiesto's set, most of Dan's and all of Pete's aborted set. Sure, it got muffled a few times, but overall it sounded great. They system had great impact. My girl comented that her skirt was vibrating. None of our ears are ringing, and I was a group of about 10 people. At a lot of clubs I stuff pieces of napkin in my ears because I can tell my ears will be bleeding if I don't.
So what about Tiesto's set ? It wasn't my favorite of his, but we thought he delivered. He seemed focused for the most part. I'm not a pro DJ, but I thought his mixing was tight. As for his track selction, I'd comment that he was respecting ya'll by not playing all his tracks. If he had done that, then we'd be hearring: doesn't he ever play different songs? I'm surprised nobody has commented on the new inteprestation of Adagio. In regard to the set, Tiesto probably figured that these would be true fans and they didn't need to hear all of his own tracks and any other tracks all the other DJs are playing. His set was solid and was not a sell out. It would have been so much easier for him to play all th usual stuff, but it seemed like put some thought and effort into it. As was mentioned, I really enjoyed hearing Mind Circus and Open your eyes. I would preferred to hear a little more tracks like that from his old record box, but it was still a decent set. I also wish he played just a bit longer, but Pete was starting to do a fabulous job when he got cut off at the beginning of Carlos Vive track, como tu (Oakenfold remix). You could see his disappointment/frustration. We've seen Tiesto a ton of times, maybe not more than most, but enough for me to feel like I have a clue. Last year alone, it was crazy. Of couse we saw him at the legendary six hr set at Space during WMC. We saw him 5 times in June alone, inclding the one at Nations DC. Then I saw him in Miami at Bayfront Park, then at Space. We made the pilgramage to Holland for TIC and then saw him in LA for NYE. The great crowd helped last night.
Anway, these are mostly just my impressions/opinions. Ya'll have it pretty good. 18+ is cool, and the cover is decent. $25 for tiesto is not bad. I remember paying about $35 in New Orleans at the HOB (House of Blues) for his Nyana tour. HOB is nice, but it's not GLOW/Fur by any means. $20-25 for special events is pretty good. Special events at LA clubs is at least $30. So I digress again. I'm just rambling. We had a great time and look forward to going back even if it's not a 'special' event. It's clear that Dan Sampson can deliver as does Pete. I'd be curious to see what Tiesto does next time. I missed Ferry last time and still haven't gotten over that (it may sound like tiesto is my favorite DJ, but's actually Ferry). We may try to make it to Markus's show, but it's so close to WMC. I would would not miss that if I we're ya'll. He may easily become your favorite dj. Just wait till you hear his Rank1-Breathing version on that pounding system. That alone will be worth the price of admission. He always seems to know when to drop that. If he doesn't it, ask for a refund - just kidding.
Anyway, I'm sure I can write more but ....

empath, we listened to yours. also nice!!
my review, and i dont feel like writing a big one today.
i'm glad we came. got to see some people i havent seen in awhile. had fun for some of the night. got too drunk b/c the other half of my night i was not in the best mood, and stopped really paying attention to WHAT he was playing and just tried to dance away my frustrations. which, btw, worked. the first half of the night, i really liked the tracks he was playing. i hate FUR's dj booth so i barely even glanced at tiesto for more than a brief moment, so i really dont care what he was doing up there, cuz i couldnt see it. i will say THIS though: i was really fed up with the fucking bouncers last night. the ones under the stage were RIDICULOUS. if you dont want us dancing under there (although on other nights, this was never ever a problem), then please TELL ME not to dance there. DONT PUT YOUR HANDS ON ME. DONT SHOVE ME. DONT PUSH ME WHEN I HAVE NO WHERE TO GO. and then, at the end of the night, i understand the bouncers were rushing to break up a fight in vip or whatever, but a very LARGE bouncer shoved me SO HARD out of his way that hit the railing HARD and managed to cut my arm. that's totally uncalled for. i dont care if the club is on fire and you're rushing to put it out. watch what the fuck you're doing. that really pissed me off.
i was also a little disappointed that tiesto ended his set so early for what i was expecting to be a "extended set" but given my mood by that point, it really didnt bother me. what did sort of bother me, was like others have said, he didnt even acknowledge the crowd that he was done. even if he didnt want to sign autographs, that's fine. but he left so quickly i didnt even know where he ended and pete begun.
i'm just glad i got to see my glow friends twice in one week.
everything else... is all irrelevant.
tiesto opened with the Way Out West song he opened his first hour with (not the actual opening) for tiesto in concert. he also played Interstate - I Found You, Made of Sun - Kyau vs Albert. blah i'm too tired to think what else.
best quote of the night:
brian: "You treat your car like a skateboard."
i never laughed so hard this morning. i wont bother to explain, i'm sure he's gonna have plenty to say about that.
glad you all had fun
I just got home and im tired as hell....but I have to upload these pics and post them asap....cause they are fucking hilarious!!! We got there around 9:30 and there was nobody in line at all and much to my suprize, they were letting cameras inside.....I lucked out and had my in my buddys car. Got in and the main room was already open which was really nice not having to chill upstairs like a herd of cattle untill they opened the whole club. Dam Sampson was rippin shit as usual.....Does this guy ever have a bad set???....I don't think so!!! Awesome job Dan....as always your the fucking man!!!
Tiesto came on about 45 minutes late which I think we all expected. Extended set?.....where the hell did that come from? But whatever we still got a good 3 1/2 - 4 hours out of him. Was it the best set Tiesto ever played.....by no means at all but it was a nice change of pace for Tijs. He played very hard with minimal fillers and fluffy shit. I couldn't ID 1/4 of the stuff he was playing. His mixing was on point all night....no trainwrecks at all. He wasn't interacting with the crowd very much but I think that's because he was getting a feel for the new club and set up since it was his first time playing @ Fur.
Pete set after Tiesto was awesome.....I didnt't even realize Tiesto was done for a good while lol. Overall the music was great last night.
Most of all I had a great time partying with my friends.....I haven't been out since PVD on NYE and I needed this so bad!!! My legs are paying for it right now.....everybody was dancing their asses off all night....GREAT TIMES!!! Sucked that a certain few people couldn't make it out but you guys were missed. You guys know me when it comes to shout outs anymore....Ill let the pictures do the talking.
that's a nice work of fiction you posted there.
dont lie - tell them the real truth -
you dont remember squat about what he played

I nominate Brian to be the official TA photographer.
Seriously, it's amazing how this guy manages to get so many pics in a single night. What's even more amazing is that he's in a lot of them. When I take/sneak my camera (fits in the altoids box)in to a club I never get that many pics. What usually happens is that I end up taking a bunch of pics of everybody else and I'm never in any of them. The few times I do get a pic, they usually take a horrible pic. Worse is that people always seem to want pics when the music is getting real good and you don't want to be bothered.
So my hats off to Brian for managing all that and still being able to ID all those tracks - ha !
