Armin Van Buuren 'Sound'
I have finally found the secret to That Brightening sound Armin puts on his sets...FM Compression!
If you put a FM Compression thingamajigger on top of your sets...it enriches the sound and makes them much more vibrant and so much more wanting to listen to.
With
Without
It's a noticeable differance and I'm guessing a few of you would like to use it on top of your sets.
You can download it for WINAMP

when he records his live sets he goes straight to mp3 with total recorder.

Hi guys!
Just my 2 cents!. Yes it does lot of difference. I have been convesing with Armin on his web site forum. He will now be going digital with Ableton Live, which I've been using for a while now. The FM compression you talking about, can be found on SOUND FORGE 7.0. Sometimes I'd also put a slight delay reverb on it.
Enjoy !
Cheers!

Uhg...I just gave a link to something better than soundforge would do for fm compression

Theres also a tiny bit of reverb on armins sets...and I don't think this plugin can do that yet

Ok, let's keep our feet on the ground for a moment.
With regards to radio (as Tuface mentions), yes you will always have compression on a radio show. Stuff recorded from the radio will have a certain clarity and loudness that you don't get if you listen direct from source.
There is always a sound engineer present when a radio show is being broadcast.
Has anyone ever noticed how good his live sets sound?
The man is an absolute genious with an EQ and understands accoustics very well so there is a lot more to Armin's sound than just one easy wonder solution.
You are entering the realm of mastering and sound engineering and anyone that thinks there is a simple quick fix solution is dreaming.
If you were however to put some compression on your demo mix or and a maximizer then you would get a more pleasing sound as long as it's done well.
But as for playing live at a venue that comes down to experience, good understanding and a good ear.
Cheers
Nem
Theres also weather and geography that can change sound. I heard radio stations stream at 96kbps to push the signal farther
at my station, the on-air personality's voice and music goes through about 3-5 compressors/processors before it hits the air
it gives it more "punch"

I tried to give this a go and it keeps crashing whenever I select it, I was trying to listen to an internet radio station, can this thing do streams?, I woulda thought so, would try but I'm at work right now.
anyone got another link to the plugin? seems this guy hit his bandwidth limit, heh...
also, wouldnt it be less time consuming if you just used the dsp with a file writer output plugin?

Haha, no kidding. Seriously I can engineer a mix pretty well now, and every commercial sound you hear uses compression. But I'm not gonna jump on the the bandwaggon and rant about bitrates and FM radio, everyone knows about signal processing
fuck i need some sleep
If anyone wants me to put the FM Compression on their set PM me with a link to it
