Trance in Greensboro and vicinity ?

Hello !!!

My company is going to send me 2 weeks to Greensboro ... the exact date isnt set yet, but maybe beginning of june ...

Are there any clubs / discos which are worth a visit cause of the music played there ??? not necessary to mention that it should be trance / progressive right ???

thx in advance
Keldana

P.S. Is this a club

Sky Nightclub & Lounge, Charlotte, NC

where our music is played regularly ???

Charlotte is about an hour south of Greensboro, and there is sometimes (actually quite rarely) something going on there...

There is absolutely no EDM scene in G-boro...I use to go to college there and dreaded every moment of it.

The closest they ever got was playing Kernkraft 400 - Zombie Nation (played the hell out) at a place called Sky Bar.

My suggestion would be to check out Velocity in Charlotte, which is about an hour and a half south of Greensboro. Not sure if anything is going on there though...

Good Luck.

atlanta is gonna be your best bet... and that is about 5 hours drive from greensboro....

might be something worth flying to atlanta to see... there is quite a bunch of good stuff coming up- see john digweed thread...

DC is siiiiiick!!

We've got Glow, which hosts the big Dj's like Tiesto, Armin Van Burren, Ferry Corsten every Saturday night. Pete Moutso, who is signed to Black Hole Recordings is the resident DJ.

Next Saturday is Deep Dish night. If you decide to come, let me know.

why sick if there are such great DJs every Saturday night ???

hehe, but maybe I should look for other DJs ... not the ones from NL which I can find a few miles from my home town !!!

Posted by InMotion on Feb-25-2005 22:30:

sorry, sick is a word we use to indicate "very good" or "fun." street talk basically...

and yes, i am very jealous of you

In any event, whenever you want to come see all the local EDM talent in DC, PM me.

FYI: DC and Miami have the best vibe for EDM in the US.

this is about it - at least keep a lookout for when you'll be in town.... dj's roll up every once in a BIG while..(tiesto in Dec, boy george, acosta, micro....there are some decent local dj's though - at least you'd be able to go out and hear *some* decent music even if it wasn't a bigger name dj

yes i would know best. If it has to do with Trance in the carolinas, i will know about it :-P

I am one of the few tring to revive the trance scene here. Sure tiesto sold out as he is known by listeners of all genres. Paul Van Dyk came to Velocity and only had half capacity.

Greensboro will not ever have a trance scene anymore. IE Sandra Collins recently came there and attendance was minimal.

Raliegh last had a trance headliner (micro) at the Office Jan 2003. Breaks and DNB are all that does well in this area.

Charlotte is it if you like trance and are not willing to drive more than 1 1/2 hours. I drive alot and go all over. I went to DC for tiesto @ glow feb 22nd. I goto atlanta often as Liquified brings good things to 1150. And 2 to 3 times a year I drive to Miami to go to club space.

Hope this helps

Edit: Yes sky is a club and it just hosted the first ever all trance event in the carolinas on 2/25/05 when you get a solid date that your coming into town let me know and I will find something for you. or at least try

all of you ... very much !!!

I will sure post as soon as possible, when the date is solid, Im flying to Greensboro ...

as I said ... maybe I should look for DJs, I cant see very often ... american ones maybe ... cause I want to see and feel, how US trance people make party ... my last party here (or I should better say) in the Netherlands was TRANCE ENERGY ... so Corsten, van Buuren, Gielen etc.

and I will see Armin van Buuren @ Ocean Diva in less then 14 days ... so no need to see this DJs in the US ... or maybe I should see them there also, cause then I could compare the difference of the people best !!!

sick = good ... so the day wasnt for nothing ... learned something, which I can use when Im coming to this country ...

Bye for now !!!

As for American based Trance Dj's, you'll want to check out Pete Moutso @ Glow in D.C., Dj Micro, George Acosta, Markus Schulz, and Serge Devant @ Crobar in NYC. These Dj's are not as good as say, Paul Van Dyk, but they each have their own style.

And Dream Beamz: PM me next time you come up to Glow, we usually have pre-party meet-ups w/ other Glow peeps.

i will try, i usually make my decisions the day of or the night before. My work scedual can change in an instant.

Edit: I just remember I was told that the old Mythos will be reopening under the name "The Forum" around the month of May so by june there might be a chance for ya

Greensboro really does stink when it comes to EDM. I lived there 3 years before moving down to Tampa. But there are a few saving graces in town you should check out...

The Blue Hour - located downtown - I'm not sure if it's still open, but this little place was probably the most chic place in G'boro and always had some form of house or progressive going.

Sky Bar - located on Elm Street in downtown - Tends to have decent music lately. When I lived there, it was forever an 80s club.

The Green Bean - located on Elm Street in downtown - This is a very cool and funky coffee shop that highlights local art and music. Seriously, this is the one reason I miss Greensboro. Ask for Pete, and tell him Doug VanSant says Hello... He might give you a free latte.

Best of luck and enjoy your stay in the Gate City.

So if ya have a question, just ask this guy. He knows everything. I wish I had half his knowledge of NC trance. He is the ultimate NCTA.

Trance isnt very big in NC but its getting more and more attention. Sky, Velocity, and Scorpios (which are already listed) are the only clubs I know that promote trance at all but Atlanta and DC are within reasonable driving distances and they have a pretty good following.

It seems to become 06/02/05 to 06/20/05 (correct order ?) for me to visit the United States of America ...

cause I would like to see different DJs, Im planning one weekend in New York and one in Washington D.C. ... which I would have to pay myself, but who cares !!!

so Greensboro will see me as far as my plans go true from 06/05/05 to 06/17/05 ....

I think there arent much parties planned until now, am I right ???

thx in advance !!!
Frank
