i've never ever heard these terms outside of TA. so, the question is, is it just an american thing, or do i really need to go out more, and watch more mtv?

metro seems more widespread, but still mostly an american thing
perhaps because in other countries men actually have been dressing and treating themselves nicely since before queer eye debuted :-p

I've already heard both words here in Brazil in magazines and daily life.
