What's label ?

hi every 1 , hope u dont laughing @ me but i want exactly know what label mean . the only thing i kno about label is each record company
has their own label but im not sure if its right or wrong , or is it something else .

btw me and my m8 just bought a DJ set's . one each :P

but any time i use it it doesnt give me the right place
