Help needed from business / marketing experts
A friend of mine runs a farm and i've offered to do some market research in order to help improve his custom in the winter months and in general, so i'm looking for some bright ideas that might encourage more people to come to the farm.
he want's to know...
What could extend the busy season further into the winter months?
-What would particularly make people visit in the winter?
-What facilities/attractions/special events would we need to provide?
-When? Midweek market or weekend market or both?
How could we extend our visitor profile?
-How could we attract older children?
-Could we attract adults without children?
-Could we attract pensioners?
if anyone has any bright ideas i'd be most grateful to hear them!

The best thing you can do here is drop the price. Lowering the cost, even to half, will stimulate demand better than anything else.
What would particularly make people visit in the winter?
What do they currently do there during Summer?
What facilities/attractions/special events would we need to provide?
What does his current business model look like?
Midweek market or weekend market or both?
What do they sell? How do they make money at present?
How could we extend our visitor profile?
Why do you want to do this?
Could we attract adults without children?
Offer romantic couple deals.
Could we attract pensioners?
Offer a pensioner discount.
I'm guessing that this is some kind of accomodation business. If you look at the ski fields they cut they prices by more than 50% in Summer because of the lowered demand. If you want to attract couples in winter than you need to market it as a romantic getaway, like include a log fire, free bottle of wine, free chocolates, on entry, that kind of thing.
If you want to attract children you need to make it interesting for them, but I'm guessing that the people paying are their parents, and the are most keen to get the kids out their hair. So I'd market it to say that they have full day activites, perhaps mountain walking, for the kids while the parents relax.
As for the older people, in Australia many have caravans, so you may offer to let them stay and just eat there or something. Older people often hate being looked after so ensure that that you provide everything but let them look after themselves, bed and breakfast style.
cheers for the reply.
it's an animal farm (i.e. cows pigs sheep etc) that people come to see and can handle the smaller pets like rabbits, mice etc.
price/deals is definately going to play the biggest factor as you've mentioned.
