Be Cool! Ableton Live 4

Is there anyway to just draw in the patterns in the arrangement view, much like the playlist in FL? Or do you have to do it all in real time? This is very much annoying me.

To clarify what i am talking about: The only way i know how to create a playlist in live 4 is to record and play everything in real time from the session view.

Thank you in advance

depends what vers of ABLETON you have....i had the KORG LIVE vers and it was restricted, same thing as you said...you need to puchase the full version(upgrade) to have all the features included.

Its the Live4 demo. Not that its restricted, I just can't find a way.

highlight a desired region on the midi track and "insert midi clip" or ctrl+shift+m... the piano roll shoould open up on the bottome of the screen. i don't know what's limited/restricted in the demo but that's how it is on my full version.

I don't think you can put seperate samples in the same midi track, so just make 2 tracks instead, one for kick one for synths. Just insert a new midi track, loop your kick that you have done and just add record the synth as another layer. If you need a better explanation, pm me.

lol no guys i am not, i ve learned some basic things in fl studio, but since i got ableton... i want to use that for music creation.
and i dont understand how to put snares drums and things like that, i ve made absynth work with ableton....but thats my peak atm :P

Posted by No Left Turn on Mar-04-2005 01:24:

what VSTi are you using to program your drums?

Posted by Ben Brown on Mar-04-2005 02:17:

I believe he's just arranging the drums in live's midi instrument.

My advice is to do all of the tutorials again. They can pretty much clarify what you are asking.

BTW, check out the forums on ableton's web site. They have some good walk-throughs and you can get good responses very quickly.

if you're using Live's "Impulse", then Tutorial #4 will guide you through the whole thing. however if you're using Battery or Kontakt/Intakt then it's a completely different ball game.

nothing :O
i only have vanguard and absynth!
which should i get?

Posted by No Left Turn on Mar-04-2005 03:12:

Live has a built-in drum sampler called "Impulse" that you could check out. The tutorial I mentioned will guide you through how to use it. Personally, I use Battery which is sort of a pain in the butt to get working properly in Live. It's much easier to use in Cubase SX.
