Do you put dust covers on your turntables when not in use?

Just curious.

Posted by IntegraR0064 on Mar-02-2005 21:23:

I used to....lately i've been lazy. I think i'm going to start doing it again, my stuff gets dusty really fast.

I usually just cover everything with a sheet or something.

I cover up all my equipment with a towel or some sort, It saves from dust damage to pitch faders, and cross/volume faders.

Edit: And just keeps everything clean

Posted by vswede on Mar-02-2005 22:17:

why not? if u got them mightaswell use them. i also cover the mixer but thats partly because i use my booth as a place to put my clothes on when they are not in the closet (small room:whip

Nope, I own Technics, there the hard nuts of decks, think of them as skinhead soccer fans, they don't take shit from no one.

I let them collect dust when not in use, it builds character.

No, I own "retarded" Numarks. But, I do cover them when I know they wont be used for like a week or so.

I always protect my equipment/vinyl as best I can. I have the shittest decks that were ever on the market, I still protect them, I really don't know why... maybe it is so I don't expose my vinyl to so much shit.

Well I found when I had some shitty equipment I used to treat it really well, as I didn't want it to break, but when you got some higher end stuff that was made for a club, its able to take a fair bit of bashing, so I don't actually take as much care, I do with my vinyl obviously, just wait, one day you'll have the high end gear, and you'll be able to treat it like crap to your hearts content.

That said, I'm going out to get drunk.

Posted by TranceSpeeder on Mar-03-2005 01:26:

that reminds me, i need to start doing that.

Posted by Eric Siefer on Mar-03-2005 04:03:

I did when I first got my tables. Then after I got tired of taking them off every day/few hours, I stopped. Now That I dont have time to use them that often, and have gotten good enough to play gigs(ie, not practice as much) I should. Although I really should practice anyway, I'm still a bit rusty sometimes.

As for records, I treat them like babies.. because they are. One drop/ fuckup and there goes that track you spent months looking for.

I know you don't let that brand new 1500 collect dust!!!

I cover all my stuff. Dust covers for my Tech's and for my mixer and CDJ I just place a piece of cardboard on top of them when not in use.

For my phones, I just drape the leather bag over the top of them. I use to put them in the bag every time but I think that was part of the stress that led them to break.

I guess I'm kind of meticulous (anal) though.

Edit - and I did use to own retarded Numarks and I never covered them.

Posted by i got big pants on Mar-03-2005 09:27:

no dust covers...just towels. work pretty damn well too. as for vinyl...i try and baby them, but sometimes it doesnt work. such as...when im spinning, accidently hit the carts while im trying to cue and have that whole "WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK" sound. or while im changing records, the tone arm will accidently drop back on the record. bah!!! i hate when im putting records back in my crate, and the sleeve will get caught on another and rip!!!

Posted by T-Soma on Mar-03-2005 10:44:

Their should be another option "no - i use a crapy 20 yr sansui table with rotary nobs for pitch"

Posted by NickPilon on Mar-03-2005 21:50:

For sure, as long the equipment will be protected as long you will use it properly.

Posted by amartinathome on Mar-04-2005 02:28:

I use a flag. Perfect size for two turntables and a mixer.

Although my brother in law uses the dust covers because of the cats.

I will never own a cat - but his cat is ok.

Posted by Rick D on Mar-04-2005 10:28:

I use the dust covers on my techs because my room gets really dusty(don't know why), dont cover the mixer or headphones though, maybe i should.

Posted by Liam on Mar-04-2005 18:37:

i never used to... then my cat decided to eat one of my whitelabel needles. so yeah, i put the covers on all the time now.

Posted by syn on Mar-04-2005 22:53:

It cost me more than two years to save enough money to buy the techs, mixer & monitors so, sure, I cover everything.

Posted by Timski on Mar-05-2005 02:00:

Feckin cats...

I cover up all my gear and towel the mixer then put a sheet of cardboard over it all... i never used to rock the cardboard but i used to come out in the mornings and notice the towel fully pushed down over the mixer because the cat had been sleeping there... cant imagine it being overly comfy for puss with a fader in its arse...

so i use the towel & cardboard system... and also i like to take care of my shit...

Posted by InterMilan31 on Mar-05-2005 03:15:

no im a lazy bastard

Posted by Liquid Fusion on Mar-12-2005 03:45:

i think the stuff you buy should be taken with great care because...well for me i have pride in the stuff i have and the stuff i put hard-earned cash into.
