Sasha changing the way of DJing?

http://www.innerphaseny.com/view_50.html

I was reading this article and came to wonder whether the art of DJing or atleast an EDM DJ is going or is already taking this type of direction. Should up and coming or those who are atleast interested in DJing begin learning these types of programs? How much longer before the turntables and mixers are useless or out of date? Just wondering, in general, what type of direction everyone here see the art of DJing is headed.

well there is no way that tradition decks and a mixer will be replaced anytime soon.

sure others are using new technology, such as Sasha, BT, PVD, Richie Hatwin, but that tech is just coming of age.

Lets face it a mac laptop is pretty expensive still, plus the program, and special controler, not exactly something you can just pick up right away, or for a decent $$$.

I think for people to use Albeton, they need to have access to a lot more samples, and parts of songs as well, which may be easier to come by for bigger djs.

but for now, and for a while, the decks are here to stay, and to be honest i love watching DJs work with vinyl, and a mixer.

I think it will be quite some time if ever that it completely changes over though its not a bad idea to begin looking ahead somewhat.

so wuts this controller look like?

i agree with his comment that DJing with a mouse isnt very cool...

i find it hard to consider it DJing anymore if there arent any actual Disks involved.. maybe like mixmaster, or Mousetro Sasha or something like that(cheesy as it sounds)...

still... i dont think the turntable/mixer will be leaving the scene anytime soon.. yea you can take tracks and sample and whatnot but id find it discouraging to be some traveling laptop songbank

Vinyl will never die! *goes off to hug record bag*

This is the one Sasha is using:

New technologies and equipment are welcomed but i doubt they will defeat the record players + a mixer, but more just add something new and "hi tech" into DJing.

there must be 100 other threads about this.

More people using FS/SSL type systems or using CD decks.

The mixer is always going to be the center of the DJs universe...

I think the future of mixing is somewhere along these lines.

Also, it will be years before we see Ableton make it mainstream for the everyday DJ to use because of how expensive it is to set up the entire thing. Not to mention getting parts of songs to be able to tweak them as you please.

I think it's only natural that DJing heads in the direction that Sasha and others are going, that being the use of more software and technologies that enable live mixing/remixing. I find it funny that a genre of music that is pretty much rooted in computers and technological advancements has so many followers that want their DJs to be bound by equipment that is decades old.

I own both vinyl turntables and CD turntables and I honestly show no preference to either. Unlike many people who are faithful to a certain medium, I have very little interest in the tangible aspects of the music I'm playing. To me, a record is just a piece of vinyl, it is what music I hear from that record is what counts. If I can get that same music to play from a vinyl, a CD, or from a computer program, it makes no difference. And if DJs are able to become more creative while playing those tracks from a computer program, then let them do it. It will take a while before programs like Ableton truly take off, but they will. But there will always be a place for vinyl and CD turntables as well, especially when a DJ wants to drop a classic track.

You could call them digital jockeys.

Sandstorm03 pointed out to me that hard disk drives are still discs. Doh @ me. Though I still believe Sasha isn't a DJ anymore.

Why? Most of the music was made with a hard drive anyway. To me the "feeling" doesn't come from the medium on which the track is placed, it comes from the music itself.

Q. Whats Best Technological Development for DJs / producers in recent years?

Pos. DJ Answer

1 Tiesto Pioneers DVD Deck

3 Armin Van Buuren The Pioneer CDJ-1000

5 Ferry Corsten The new types of CD players

10 Deep Dish Pioneer CDJ1000 game over

11 Carl Cox Pioneers CDJ-1000s. They got it right and
have really opened things up for DJs

12 Sander Kleinenberg For me, its the introduction of DVD in the DJ booths

13 ATB The Pioneer DJM-909, what a great mixer!

14 Judge Jules Pioneer CDJ1000

16 Marco V The Pioneer DVJ-X1, the CD player with an inbuilt DVD that
allows you to mix visuals with music. Its something I hope to be using in my sets soon.

17 Roger Sanchez The CDJ technology has changed the game completely. More
DJs are playing CDs and there are less record boxes getting
lost/stolen at airports.

18 Benny Benassi Professional DJ CD players

19 Tall Paul CD decks

20 Danny Howells Pioneer CDJ1000s. In the last few years even the most hardcore
acetate users have made the switch to CDs.

21 Steve Lawler The CDJs. You can do so much more with a CDJ than a deck.
They allow you to mix on the fly, which makes my job as a DJ
more creative and much more interesting.

25 Eddie Halliwell CDJ/DVJ and Ableton Live

28 Johan Gielen The ongoing development and improvement of CD mixers. Its
incredible how they manage to simulate the feeling of mixing vinyl
while youre actually mixing with a CD.

32 Markus Schulz The CDJ-1000 and on-line check-ins for airlines

33 Joji Biomehanika Final Scratch and the Pioneer CDJ-1000. Thanks to them my
record bag has got much lighter recently.

35 Bad Boy Bill The Pioneer DVJ

37 Dave Clarke CD Mixing. Its now tried and tested. CDs are easy to archive,
cross-compatible and easy to transport.

39 Above & Beyond CDJs, but this will be the year of Ableton Live

43 Nick Warren The Pioneer CD player

45 Laurent Garnier For DJs the new CD players have changed everything, and the
new DVJ players are going to as well

47 Jeff Mills Mills would almost certainly say the Pioneer DVJ that he twiddled
about with at Sonar

48 Satoshi Tomiie CD decks and software like Albeton Live

52 John 00 Fleming Pioneer CDJ-1000 Mk2s and Albeton Live

53 Plump DJs The Pioneer CDJ1000

54 David Morales The world of digital computers, software and CDJs

57 Dave Seaman Pioneers new DVJ DVD Deck

58 Fergie CD decks, probably

59 Matt Hardwick The phasing out of vinyl and the use of CDs is perhaps the
most significant development

62 M.I.K.E. (PUSH) The new generation of CD players does the trick for me!

64 Max Graham Pioneers DVJ. Personalised visuals attached to your music? We
live in amazing times

70 Junior Jack Pioneer CDJ1000s, even though I dont play that many CDs

78 Dave Pearce The CDJ

79 Anne Savage Pioneer DVJ-X1 DVD turntable

80 DJ Vibe Final Scratch, Cycloops and the Pioneer EFX500 effect unit

84 Armand Van Helden Plug-ins, CD and DVD scratchersthe list is endless

85 Chris Fortier The CDJ

86 Remy The edit effects on Pioneer CDJs

87 Seb Fontaine CD players. They are so good now and so much easier to travel
with. I probably play 10% from records. If I like a record I burn it straight to CD now.

89 James Lavelle Pioneer CDJ1000s and the ability to burn software software and
make music that quickly. Theyve revolutionised DJing.

90 Proteus The Pioneer CDJ

97 Darude The Pioneer CDJ 1000s. They rock and have changed peoples
old school attitudes.

98 Andy Farley CD Mixer technology has advanced no end. I use a lot more
CDRs of new material in my sets and take a lot more CD when I
travel, just in case the airline happens to lose my records!

99 Ronald Van Gelderen DJ wise, Id say the CDJ from Pioneer. I use it a lot to roadtest
new material.

100 Mark Farina The CDJ1000. Its changed things a lot. I now play about 80% of my set off CD.

1) Show some respect for the people that run TA by using the search button.

2) Show some respect for the people that use this forum by not making generic beaten-to-death threads like 'do you think sasha is chaning the art of dj'ing' or 'asot sounds the same'.. we've all heard them 1000 times. Just because you feel like talking about it doesn't mean we all have to see it.

3) Show some respect for someone that has four times as many posts on this board than you, jackass.

...do I have to bring up that your fav artist is armin...?
