The McLaren F1 is no longer the fastest production car, officially.

"I'm pleased to say that we have approved your record claim and the Koenigsegg CCR is therefore officially the worlds fastest production car" says Hein le Roux, Adjudicator and Researcher for Guinness World Records.

That's right - the McLaren F1 has been overtaken as the world's fastest production car. The CCR spanked it around the Nardo Prototipo circuit on the 28th, doing the 1 km average speed faster than the F1 by over 15 km/h. The official top speed record of the F1 was done at the VW Ehra track which has a 9 km long straight, where the F1 reached top speed of 386.7 km/h.

The CCR still beat the F1, despite the heavily banked circuit, averaging 387.87 km/h.

Next step for the CCR is to do the record at Ehra, where they figure it'll do 395 km/h.

Sweden's first supercar is indeed the fastest, and it didn't need a 6.0L V12 BMW engine. It did it with a meagre Mustang-based engine (albeit tuned to over 800 hp).

This isnt much of a suprise...but the question is, is it the same car thats on the road?

Many cars which test for the top speed record are modified, (dont comply with noise regs, emission regs, etc...)

so is the car used in the test, the same as the one you can buy out of the 'show room'?

It is the same car. There's the CCS-V8 (lower-end model, ~650hp), and the CCR which is the big brother.

cool, so it is a the same spec car. magazines and car manufacturers often overstate their performance figures, its very annoying.

give me a BMW engine any day! and the fact that the mclf1 did it will less horsepower, and over 10 years ago, thats the most remarkable thing

i am for ever sad that something is fater than the Mclaren

The 387kph was done on a BANKED TRACK. They have yet to test it at Ehra on the 9km straight that the F1 was tested on. They fully expect the CCR to exceed 395kph.

So? Do you not see 9FF's car was on a banked track too? The're aiming for 400km/h next time.

It's not a production car so it doesn't count.

Plenty of cars have gone over 400kph.

Of course it's a production car.
9FF, like RUF get their shells from porsche and build the cars themselves. They have their own VIN #'s as well.

The Zonda I believe barely does 201mph.

I love it so, however.

Also Peter, that isn't true. There's no horsepower limit that I know of.

Shrug, I'm not a car guy, I like my green Echo.

cool. but I HATE IT when people make stupid comments like..oh it didnt need a 6.0L v12 to get there just a v8...
fast is fast, no matter what motor however you're comparing a NATURALLY aspirated v12 to a heavily boosted v8.

boosted motors are very different then n/a ones. how about doing it with an n/a v8? or bolting on a couple turbos to the mcleran

its pointless to argue over the motors.

from the web link
German tuner 9ff is claiming a new top-speed world record for road-registered cars of a blistering 241.1mph. The record, set by 9ff boss Jan Fatthauer in the companys new 9F-V400, was achieved at the Nardo test track in Italy. It cracks the previous record of 240.1mph set by Andy Wallace driving a McLaren F1 in 1998.

Based on the 911 GT2

note the words "German TUNER" and "Based on the 911 GT2"

this is not a production vehicle and does not qualify. does anyone know the run numbers that the vehicle must be produced in to qualify, i know the mclaren wasnt considered "production" ford is building 1500 GT's this year to meet the production quota's but i dont know what the magic number is. Its nice to see a car take a record with good ol ford pony's under the hood tho. albeit i would have loved to see a flat head in there but only time will tell

and yes they are, but they are taxed to high hell some states prohibit them tho i think.

different motors make a world of difference, different block designs have different hp / torque characteristics, also header design, bore / stroke, port angles, lobe offset on the crank. you can do a hell of alot with a n/a V8, but you can do WAY more with a supercharged ford flat-head V8 .

while im on the topic of motors.... the greatest pony to have fire in its belly was the BOSS 429 mustang, limited run, i believe only a couple hundred were ever made.
