Anyone ever lose their motivation?

I really haven't gotten to mix the last few weeks since I been workin and when i'm off I just don't feel in the mood. It's a shame caus' I got a bunch of new tracks and a tracklist for a new mix, I just can't really find the energy to put into it.

Anyone else ever get stuck like this?

everyone gets anoyed at what they are doing at some point... its only happened to me once. i fixed it by going back and listening to the reasons i love djing. that brought it back pretty quick

I hear ya, but for me its because of just mixing tracks back and forth is boring, so I don't get involved with the music, so my track selection and beatmatching suffer, I need something to keep me on the edge, busy and having fun, the features on the X1500 help, but only so much, so I plan to get the following with the next few months.

CDJ1000
EFX1000
Midi Keyboard
Midi Controller
Midi Sync Controller
Afew other things

Run all these using Ableton, I'm sure I'll be loving DJing again.

Yea when playing to people I'm fine, but when in my bedroom theres only so many times I can happily DJ to the 2 chick posters on my wall.

Sometimes i'll lose the motivation to mix for awhile but its because I have other instruments that I need to practice. I do practice my scratch almost daily.

if i lose motivation ill just go and mix a diff genre.. like DnB...

Posted by dcougar99 on Mar-07-2005 17:47:

I lost it for about a year... my bi-weekly residency closed due to roof collapse! damn it was nice to spin for people but after that I had 0 gigs... not another place around my area that even thinks of playin EDM. to many clubs got shut down in the late 90's cuz drugs etc. But just now i am working back into it. i do need to have a few beers or something or i just get pissed that no ones around.

Yeah, my Pcv275 has been in for reapair for what must be 2-3 months now? That will kill your motivation for sure. It will probably start up again when I get my mixer back I guess...

Oh yeah, and Danny, do you know how much the efx1000 will go for in canadian dollars? I actually might consider getting one...

I don't know yet, but judging from the US price, I'd say about $1000, $1100 CDN TOPS.

Yea its a joke some of the prices we have to pay for things up here, although I was able to get the Ecler Nuo5 for a hellava good price, but it would of been from an unauthorized dealer, which is a no no for me.

You should just mess with programs for now, and save for when you got the time to look into DJing, it takes ALOT of time, so really I wouldn't get started till your able to give it a fair amount, if you can't get in cos your at school or college, DO NOT get into it, it will take over your life and you will fail everything, DJing is a Class A drug.

thanks for the advice..when would you suggest i get into in then..i really just wanna learn all about it for now...ill mess around later maybe after school or something but what do you suggest?

Always...the equipment I have now pisses me off and makes me wanna quit

Posted by Solkanar512 on Mar-07-2005 23:39:

In my case, I go to a really hard core science school, and I'ts easy to get lost in the workload. Last semester I hardly spun, and my skills were going downhill rather quickly. So over the winter break, I designed a small website (link in the sig, plug plug ) and every week a add a new set.

The thing that keeps me motivated is that the folks who listen to the sets on a regular basis are always expecting to see a new set there every sunday morning. If there isn't one, then I risk losing the audience.

Sure the first few sets blew goats, but after a while, things got better, and people started to notice. I'll admit it's not as good as having a regular gig, but it's a start, and there is nothing better for the ego than to see someone respond to your post and comment on a creative transition.

Trust me, you'll never have motivation problems if you have a site to maintain on a regular basis.

I'd recommend you download the Demos of programs like Traktor DJ Studio and things like PCDJ, there are others but those are the only that spring to mind right now, as for finding time, do it whenever you can without it effecting school work or anything else that is just important, as your gonna want a good career with loadsa money so you can spend it all on vinyl when you finally get a setup.

Also, maybe read up various things about equipment and setups, also learning about music structure would be good, and check this site out, it will keepy you busy for awhile (lots to read) and its very helpful for DJing.

Sym: I hear ya, years ago I used to play out often, now hear in Calgary I've yet to play in a club, just done afew partys and things.

Solkanar: Thats wicked, thats one of the reasons I started my site, to keep busy with music and even though I get bored with playing in my room, I like to create certain sets for download, gonna be putting up about 3 wicked mixes once I upgrade the server (200GB transfer ain't enough ) Also I got a show on Party107 every monday, so I like to make sets for that, will be added a special something to the show in the coming weeks, something thats hasn't been done before by any other DJ (that I know of), can't wait to do it, just need more gear.

Canaca user as well? I'm on their 200GB plan, and I went through 100GB the first month. So long as those assholes using "download managers" don't kill me, I should be fine. Have you had simular problems?

I go threw 200GB in about 2 weeks at the moment, so I desperately need to upgrade, when it first happen, there was no cap limit on the usage, so it went over by about 13 gigs, cost me 100 bux CDN, that happened with 8 days left in the month, if I didn't catch that and check on it, it woulda gone over by LOADS and I would of ended up owing them hundreds, I got the cap limit on now so its not to bad, but gonna upgrade soon.

EDIT: yea Canaca user aswell
