Track of the Year - 94-01

I don't know if the mods or anyone else would be up to tackling this idea, but I thought it would be really cool if we got together and voted on what we know see as the tracks of the year for 1994-2001, since the track of the year voting on this site started in 2002. We could do it in the same way we do the current voting, but with less songs to make things easier. Maybe everyone could nominate a couple songs and the top 10 nominations would be placed in a poll and people voting for a combination of 2 of them. Anyone else think this is a cool idea? I think it would be really interesting to see what everyone thinks the top songs are now from those years. We would need some people to go through all the nominations and make sure the songs were actually released in those years. Let's hear what you guys think.

Gah, a selection of over-played, over-hyped bollocks will win anyway. Look at my attempt at an EDM top 100- it ended up being the Epic Trance Countdown.

Thats what ends up winning the track of the year voting anyway each year. I still think it would be fun and interesting to do.

RANK 1 - AIRWAVE

It may be interesting nonetheless. I would be interested in seeing what people nominate for pre 98 tracks.

I agree, would be worth a shot if only to see what comes up for the early days.

edit: of course, the difference in votes between 2001 and 1994 will be rather evident.

lol, beyond the fact that he just named at least a solid track that could possibly be one of the top tracks from 94 till now. Wether or not its the best does not matter. You have Blank & Jones in your sig, if that does not say enough...

I think he meant on TA, which would be correct. Then again, in order to nominate tracks that early in the first place, all of the ASOT sheep will have insufficient knowledge in the first place and thus fuck off.

Well, guess what? I've been into EDM for quite a while now (about 20 years) and I still enjoy listening to the ASOT's weekly. Dumbfuck... Anyway, back in 1994 I really liked Atlantic Ocean - Waterfall

Nah, not really, but a lot of people here seem to think that you have to be an absolute noob when you're listening to ASOT, it's almost as if it's a crime or something when you're enjoying ASOT. Do I listen to other EDM that isn't played in Armin's show? Of course, and yet I really enjoy listening to ASOT thursday evenings. I can't see why the two couldn't go together.

It's not that, just the tendency is that the majority of people tuning in have little to no clue of EDM history in general (and I don't mean 1999), nor are they interested in it. This is an excellent opportunity to prove me wrong though.

Well, I don't know much about the other ASOT fans, though a lot of the posters on the weekly ASOT thread in the tracklistings forum here seem to have quite some knowledge of Trance in general. Btw, here's another track I enjoyed in '94, almost forgot about it: Jam & Spoon - Find Me

I have to agree with sand leaper here, a large part of asot listeners I've come across think tiesto is a pioneer of dance music and armin van buuren invented the television.

I myself am a relative noob when it comes to the whole history of dance music but I must admit I have looked into the roots of the music and I respect those who contributed so much thru the 70's, 80's and 90's.

Back in 94 I was 9 and I bounced about to ruffneck records, dyewitness and lenny d. Proper hardcore, not like any of that shite you get nowadays.

From back in that time I'd also have to mention capricorn - 20 hz which has had a recent revival in my record collection.

Ok, the point of this thread, and many others that this happens to, was not to turn into a debate over ASOT.

It's only up to 2001, as we've had TOTYs for 2002-2004 on TA already.

i like the idea, but i think it should be one per year, and not one per all the pre-ta years.
apart from that, id like to see it starting with older stuff, why limit to '94?

No real reason I chose '94, just to limit the number of years so whoever runs it doesn't have too much to take care of. It could be from earlier though if they were willing to do it.

Well I don't know much about trance tunes back from the early to mid nineties, but if I had to nominate a track from back then, I would have to pick Li Kwan-Point Zero. That tune was just years ahead of its time.

if you're just talking about verifying the release date, thats a piece of cake, i wouldnt mind doing that myself even
